Please note that the Identities of the winners of the Problem Phase will be hidden.
We want you to help us create the world’s next great line of skin products. So…get yourself a chemistry set… a lab… maybe even an assistant… Sorry. Just kidding! No, we’re not asking you to actually create these products. What we DO want your help with is putting your IMAGINATION and CREATIVTY to work to tell us what these products should be.
And we’re going to do that step-by-step.
Problems: First we’ll be asking you to identify the kinds of skin Problems you’d like to solve. For this step we want you to be as specific as you can be. We’re interested in Problems related to acne and eczema, but you can also identify a Problem that’s specific for you, or, someone you know, for example, rosacea. Note that the Problems you address can also be rooted in the kinds of Solutions that are offered in the marketplace currently. For example: “My acne is controllable but the medicine I use dries my face up for several days…”
Solutions: When “the best” Problems are chosen. The next step is where you will tell us about a great new Solution for the problem you’ve identified. Here is where we want you to really use your imagination. We want you to be smart and focused here: stretch the boundaries…but…try to avoid presenting Solutions that are “magic wands.” We want the Solutions to be innovative, we want you to stretch out your imagination -- but we’d like them to be grounded in reality. Remember your Solution can be about any aspect of the remedy. How it feels, works, how you use it, where/when you use it, even the form of the product itself (think about how those tiny breath strips changed mouthwash!!)…think widely, and think deep! Thinking about the way products are sold, how they are packaged and how they are applied to the problem skin are open ended, so think outside beyond what you have seen in the store today!
Suggestions: Once we have a set of Problems and Solutions identified, we’ll do a round of Suggestions to make the Solutions even better.
The goal of this project is to articulate Problems that illustrate a specific skin Problem and describe innovative new products that will provide a Solution to that Problem. We want to illuminate both the Problem and the Solution very clearly and persuasively.
--Target Audience: The primary audience is the consumer – but make sure to impart enough information about the Problem and the Solution to be of use to the folks who will be creating the actual products! The best Problems and Solutions will help our sponsor clearly grasp what the new product is all about, and also be especially persuasive and reassuring for those consumers who would have interest in such a product.
--Tone: Compassionate, plainspoken, and encouraging. Address the audience from a place of understanding and fellow-feeling, and offer a real, practical Solution to a real Problem.
This project will be worth a total of $15,000 and consists of 3 Phases: a Problem Phase, a Solution Phase, and a Suggestion Phase. Be sure to read the following information carefully as well as the Official Rules.
PHASE 1: PROBLEM – In 250 characters or less, describe a skin Problem, or a Problem with current skin remedies for that Problem. Identify the specific Problem as either “acne,” “eczema,” or “other.” Then describe it as concisely and specifically as you can. The FIVE (5) most relevant Problems will be selected as the winners and those creators will be awarded $800 each. Limit five (5) submissions, per member.
PHASE 2: SOLUTION – In 500 characters or less provide a Solution to one of the skin Problems identified and chosen for the Solution round. The FIVE (5) Solutions that most effectively and creatively address the Problems will be selected as the winners and the creators of those Solutions will be awarded $2,000 each. Limit FIVE (5) submissions, per member.
PHASE 3: SUGGESTIONS – In 140 characters or less, suggest ways to improve the winning Solutions from Phase 2. Make them more convenient, more effective, more useful, more transportable.
