Parents love to tell stories about their kids. So much in fact that you can't get them to stop! But give them some credit, the kids that is, they can't help but be so fun and playful and funny and quirky and imaginative. They are special people at a unique point in their lives where they have boundless energy and never ending enthusiasm.
That's why Tongal is pairing up with a Mystery Sponsor to bring the stories about your kids to video! We want YOU to tell us funny stories - about your kids, other peoples kids, from when you were a kid - then have filmmakers, animators, visual effects artists, and stop-motion creators, recreate them in their medium of choice. So get creative, be imaginative, and celebrate kids being kids!
What you need to know:
• Your video MUST tell a story.
• Your video MUST be family-friendly: NO PROFANITY or suggestive language.
• Your video MUST be about kids being playful, quirky, funny.
• Your video MUST be grounded in reality, not focus on fantasy.
• Your video MUST be something that kids would want to watch and share with their friends and family.
The primary goal of this project is to produce a fun, playful, quirky 30 to 120 second video bringing a “Kids Being Kids” story to life via live-action, animation, stop-motion, claymation, or any other creative medium of your choice. Maybe it’s emotional, maybe it’s super-creative or just plain silly – either way, we want people to go nuts over it!
Tongalers, this is your chance to create a really fun digital short about “Kids Being Kids.” The stories must be grounded in reality; they can be creative and imaginative, but please nothing too fantastical or fairy tale-y. This is your opportunity to make something that kids and parents alike will think is funny! You are not bound by a brand's guidelines, so you do not have to showcase a product. This is essentially your short film fest for kid-friendly content!
-- Target Audience: Parents and kids 3-8. (Although casting can be aspirational for young kids and tread more in the age 5-10 range.)

This project will be worth a total of $24,750 and consist of three phases, a Story Phase, a Pitch Phase and a Video Phase. Be sure to read the following information carefully as well as the Official Rules.
PHASE 1: STORY – Tell us your Story for a "Kids Being Kids” Video in 500 characters or less. Remember, a Story is not a detailed script; it is a spark of inspiration, or a distillation of what will happen in the Video. FIVE winning Story creators will each receive $250 and a 5% one-time residual payment for every winning Video their Story is used to generate. (That means if your winning Story is the basis for the 1st place Video, you will receive $500, the 2nd place Video $325, the 3rd place Video $250) – see Video Phase Payout details below.
PHASE 2: PITCH – Using text (500 characters or less), images (storyboards), video, and external links (to other supporting assets, i.e., your reel, etc.), give us your Pitch (What Is a Pitch Phase?) for how YOU would go about producing a 30-120 second video based on one of the winning Stories. The TWO most compelling Pitches will be selected and will each receive $1,000 to help create the Video. The winner (upon submitting their Winner's Affidavit and IP Assignment) will also be GUARANTEED a winning place in the subsequent Video Phase. So, if your Pitch is selected and you submit a video during the Video Phase, you will win an additional $5,000, at a minimum, and have a chance to compete for the $10,000 first place Video prize (subject to deduction for one-time 5% residual payment). Remember your Pitch can include any, and all, of the assets mentioned above and you MUST include a link to some of your previous video work on Tongal or elsewhere to be considered for this phase. For an example of an effective pitch, check out Erik Beck’s winning “3 Artists & 5,000 LEGOs”. All Pitches will remain private until after the winners of the Video Phase are announced and the Project is complete. Keep in mind, if you don’t win the Pitch Phase or choose not to create a Pitch, you will still have the opportunity to create and submit a “Wild Card” Video.
PHASE 3: VIDEO – The TWO winners from the Pitch Phase will each create a 30-120 second video based upon his/her winning Pitch, and all other creators are invited to enter a “Wild Card” (What Is a Wildcard?) submission that is not based on any winning material from the previous phases. The Judges will score all Wild Card Videos and the ONE highest scoring Wild Card Video and the TWO Videos submitted by the Pitch winners will be scored to determine the standings for the Video Phase. Remember, both the TWO Pitch winners, along with the non-Pitch Video creator, will receive prizes.
-- Video Phase Payout: Winners of the Video Phase will earn the following prizes: 1st place $10,000, 2nd place $6,500, 3rd place $5,000 (less any 5% one-time residual payments paid to Idea winners, as applicable).
-- Music: Killer Tracks is a leading provider of production music for use in film, television, advertising and interactive media. Killer Tracks’ music will be available to registered Tongal members at no charge solely for their incorporation into official Submissions to this Project. No other use is permitted. You may only use up to THREE Killer Tracks maximum as part of your video Submission.
