Background

In addition to Pitches based on one of the winning Stories, we will also be accepting Pitches that are NOT based on any of the winning Stories - also known as WILDCARD PITCHES. To submit a Wildcard Pitch, select "Wildcard" from the Base Story list instead of one of the winning Stories during the pitch phase.

What’s your favorite memory of your parents from your childhood?

Maybe there was that one time you’ll never forget, or maybe you’re lucky and can’t even choose a favorite, because you have so many contenders. You probably wouldn’t say your favorite memory is “just having parents” – after all, that’s simply the precondition for any memory involving them. But for the thousands of children in foster care and orphanages “just having parents” means the world and makes all the difference. We wouldn't be where or who we are today without our families.

Enter Kidsave, a nonprofit that works to find permanent, loving families for the older kids that haven’t yet been adopted. Through a variety of programs, Kidsave pairs children from foster homes and orphanages with families on the weekends, during the summers, and through other immersive experiences so that they may bond with loving adults who can provide a better life for them.

Kidsave is turning to Tongal to generate awareness and inspire people to share their own family stories, in hopes that others will realize the how important it is for children to have families, and donate to the organization.

Objectives

Create a 90 to 120-second Video that conveys the importance of parental love through a heartwarming or funny story. Please note, your video does not have to be about about a successful adoption story. This is about the special relationship children have with their parents, and how your life has been positively shaped by them. Most importantly, videos should inspire people to contribute to Kidsave.

--Key Marketing Messages: Every child needs a family. It’s not ok that some children are forgotten in foster care and orphanages, so Kidsave shines a light on those kids and gives them the opportunity to connect with loving families in an effort to find them a permanent home.

--Target Audience: Women 35+

--Tone: Joyful, inspirational, emotional, light humor is ok.

--Exposure: Kidsave Facebook and Twitter. Also Kidsave events.

Details

This Project will be worth a total of $15,000 and consists of 3 Phases: a Story Phase, a Pitch Phase and a Video Phase. Be sure to read the following information carefully as well as the Official Rules.

PHASE 1: STORY – Tell us your Story about the special relationship you have with your parent or parents, and how your life has been positively shaped by them, in 500 characters or fewer. Your Story can be a distinct memory, or about your unique relationship. The winning Story submissions will receive $250 each and a 5% one-time residual payment for any winning Videos based on their Story. That means if your winning Story is the basis for the 1st place Video, you will receive $350, the 2nd place Video $237.50– see Video Phase Payout details for more information.

Payment for a winning Story Submission is contingent upon cooperation with the filmmaker(s) selected to bring the Story to life.  Payment will be made upon completion of the Video phase.  If necessary, travel arrangements and expenses to meet or film the Story winner are the responsibility of the Pitch winner.

PHASE 2: PITCH - Submit your Pitch (What Is a Pitch Phase?) convincing the Sponsor why you should be selected to execute a Video based on one of the winning Ideas from the previous Phase using:

The 1 most compelling Pitch will be selected and, upon submitting the Winner’s Affidavit and the IP Assignment, will receive $2,500 to help create the Video.  Additionally, upon submitting a Video that satisfies the criteria laid out in your winning Pitch, the Pitch winner will also be GUARANTEED a winning place in the subsequent Video Phase.  So, if your Pitch is selected and you execute your Pitch effectively in your Video submission, you will win an additional $4,750, at a minimum, and have a chance to compete for the $7,000 First Place video prize (subject to deduction for one-time 5% residual payment to eligible Idea winners). For an example of an effective Pitch, check out Erik Beck’s winning “3 Artists & 5,000 LEGOs” Pitch video. All Pitches will remain private until after the winner of the Video Phase is announced and the Project is complete.

PHASE 3: VIDEO – The 1 winner from the Pitch Phase will create a 90-to-120-second Video based upon their winning Pitch.

All other creators are invited to enter a Wildcard (What Is a Wildcard?) submission that can be based on one of the winning Stories from the previous Phase or a totally original concept that is not based on any winning material from the Story Phase.  The Judges will score all Wildcard submissions and the 1 highest scoring Wildcard Video along with the 1 winning Video submitted by the Pitch winner will be scored to determine the standings for the Video Phase.  Remember, the 1 Pitch winners, along with 1 Wildcard creator, will receive prizes.

--Video Phase Payout: Winners of the Video Phase will earn the following prizes: 1st place $7,000 and 2nd place $4,750 (less any 5% one-time residual payments paid to the Idea winners, as applicable).

--Music:  Tongal has partnered with three premiere music providers: Audiosocket, Killer Tracks, Epidemic Sound and Music Dealers. Any of which can be used to source music for your Video submission to this Project. You may use up to THREE total tracks per Video submission, and they can come from any of the three providers listed above. Music from these providers is available to registered Tongal members at no charge solely for their incorporation into Submissions to this Project and will not require a separate Music Release Form. To learn more about using each of these music providers, click on any of the provider’s names above.

If you are selected as a winner and choose to use custom/original music, you must fill out and submit our Music Release Form. If you obtain music from other catalog providers, you must purchase the appropriate license at your own expense and submit it with our Music Release Form when you turn in your Video paperwork.

--Referral: Any Tongal member who refers one of the winning Video creators in this Project using the Tongal “Invite Friends” functionality will receive a referral fee equal to 5% of the amount won. That’s a potential $587.50 in bonus cash just for telling all of your talented friends about this Project! Check out more about our Referral Program in FAQ.
