Background

**NEW Sponsor's Note:  Your Video should focus on the slick and cool design of the Heineken Slim Can. Currently, there is no slim can offering in the beer category... so this launch is a big deal, and your Video should highlight that. Bring the COOLNESS of the can and "Cold to the last drop" to life, as you showoff this slick new product in your Video!**

In 1963, Fellini proved that an intensely personal story detailing the struggles of his own creative process, 8 ½, could be a masterpiece.  In 2014, Heineken proved that their 8.5 oz Slim Can could contain one.

Best of all, Heineken wants to do this in the most eye-catching, inspired way imaginable.  As the maestro himself might have suspected, art and commerce have finally merged – ads, or the best ads, don’t look like “ads” anymore. In fact, they challenge our perceptions of storytelling, and of the format itself.  So they are enlisting Tongal to do the same.

So here’s your chance—an invitation to create your own masterpiece in the package of a branded film; an opportunity to work with Heineken and to be a part of their legacy of all things upscale and innovative.  If you’ve seen (and we know you have) Tony Scott’s Beat the Devil for BMW or Wes Anderson’s Castello Cavalcanti for Prada, you know where the bar is set.

Yes, Tongal Filmmakers: it’s time to make your own 8 1/2 for the 8.5 oz Heineken Slim Can, what’s cooler than that?

Objectives

**NEW Sponsor's Note:  Your Video should focus on the slick and cool design of the Heineken Slim Can. Currently, there is no slim can offering in the beer category... so this launch is a big deal, and your Video should highlight that. Bring the COOLNESS of the can and "Cold to the last drop" to life, as you showoff this slick new product in your Video!**

The goal of this project is to create a cool, witty, cosmopolitan, and inventive Short Film (up to sixty seconds in length) about Heineken’s 8.5 oz Slim Can that stays cold to the last drop.  Make Fellini proud, with your own 8 1/2 for the 8.5 oz Heineken Slim Can. What’s the coolest way to share “Cold to the Last Drop” with the world? Where are you going to take the Heineken Slim Can? How is this small, cold can going to become a part of your long, hot summer?

Important Casting note: Per Heineken's Legal, Heineken Code requires actors in your Video to be at least 25 years old.

Your Short Film should:

For visual reference: Please see Heineken’s latest work, including: Departure Roulette, Carol Karaoke, The City

For insight: People want refreshment. That means cold beer; beer that’s cold to the last drop. That’s why Heineken created the 8.5 oz Slim Can. You’re welcome.

--Key Marketing Messages: Heineken’s tagline is “Open Your World.” Communicate the unique “Cold to the last drop” properties and characteristics of the Heineken Slim Can.

--Target Audience: Men aged 25-44 who agree that life is more fulfilling if you go beyond who or what you are.

--Casting:  Only show actors who are 25 years old and who look 25 years old. ***(Tongal’ers, you must be 21 to participate in this project.)***

--Executional Mandatories: Cannot show anyone actually consuming Heineken. Must adhere to our Alcohol Code of Conduct (available under the Assets Tab). Use the brand-given bumper.

--Tone:  Witty, cosmopolitan, inventive, open-minded. Heineken sponsors James Bond, so keep that tone in mind.

--Exposure: Intended for use to support the campaign about the Heineken Slim Can. Potential for broadcast.

Details

This Project will be worth a total of $100,000 and consists of 3 Phases: a Story Phase, a Pitch Phase and a Video Phase. Be sure to read the following information carefully as well as the Official Rules.

PHASE 1: STORY  – In 500 characters or fewer, tell us your idea for an epic Video about the slim 8.5 oz can of Heineken, which is cool to the last drop. The Story should not be a detailed script; it is the basis of what will happen in the plot of the film. The winning Story creators will receive $500 each and a 5% one-time residual payment for any winning Videos based on their Story. (That means if your winning Story is the basis for the 1st place Video, you will receive $1,750, the 2nd place Video $750, 3rd place Video $600, 4th place Video $450, and 5th place Video $325 – see Video Phase Payout details for more information.)

PHASE 2: PITCH - Submit your Pitch (What Is a Pitch Phase?) convincing the Sponsor why you should be selected to execute a Video based on one of the winning Stories from the previous Phase using:

The 4 most compelling Pitches will be selected and, upon submitting the Winner’s Affidavit and the IP Assignment, will each receive $5,000 to help create the Video.  Additionally, upon submitting a Video that satisfies the criteria laid out in your winning Pitch, the Pitch winners will also be GUARANTEED a winning place in the subsequent Video Phase.  So, if your Pitch is selected and you execute your Pitch effectively in your Video submission, you will win an additional $6,500, at a minimum, and have a chance to compete for the $35,000 First Place video prize (subject to deduction for one-time 5% residual payment to eligible Story winners). For an example of an effective Pitch, check out Erik Beck’s winning “3 Artists & 5,000 LEGOs” Pitch video. All Pitches will remain private until after the winner of the Video Phase is announced and the Project is complete.

PHASE 3: VIDEO – The 4 winners from the Pitch Phase will each create Video up to sixty seconds based upon their winning Pitch.

All other creators are invited to enter a Wildcard (What Is a Wildcard?) submission that can be based on one of the winning Stories from the previous Phase or a totally original concept that is not based on any winning material from the Story Phase.  The Judges will score all Wildcard submissions and the 1 highest scoring Wildcard Video along with the 4 winning Videos submitted by Pitch winners will be scored to determine the standings for the Video Phase.  Remember, the 4 Pitch winners, along with 1 Wildcard creator, will receive prizes.

--Video Phase Payout: Winners of the Video Phase will earn the following prizes: 1st place $35,000, 2nd place $15,000, 3rd place $12,000, 4th place $9,000, and 5th place $6,500 (less any 5% one-time residual payments paid to the Story winners, as applicable).

--Music:  Tongal has partnered with four premiere music providers: Audiosocket, Killer Tracks, Epidemic Sound and Music Dealers. Any of which can be used to source music for your Video submission to this Project. You may use up to THREE total tracks per Video submission, and they can come from any of the four providers listed above. Music from these providers is available to registered Tongal members at no charge solely for their incorporation into Submissions to this Project and will not require a separate Music Release Form. To learn more about using each of these music providers, click on any of the provider’s names above.

If you are selected as a winner and choose to use custom/original music, you must fill out and submit our Music Release Form. If you obtain music from other catalog providers, you must purchase the appropriate license at your own expense and submit it with our Music Release Form when you turn in your Video paperwork.

--Referral: Any Tongal member who refers one of the winning Video creators in this Project using the Tongal “Invite Friends” functionality will receive a referral fee equal to 5% of the amount won. That’s a potential $2,275 in bonus cash just for telling all of your talented friends about this Project! Check out more about our Referral Program in FAQ.
