Calling all photographers, THIS is the project for you. While you may not be as renowned as Ansel Adams, you know that you take great photos. Maybe you've upgraded your Canon Powershot to a DSLR or maybe you've finally purchased a full Photoshop license, well this is the project to show off your skills.

 

Working with Tongal, eBay wants you to create Photos of products that you could potentially buy on eBay that fall into one of two categories: Prepare for Summer or Summer of Sports. 

 

eBay wants you to show the products that people are passionate about and photograph them in a way that makes them feel like they naturally belong in a space. Better yet, you'll earn $150 per winning photo! Read on for full list of products in each category.

The goal of this project is to create professional, visually appealing Photos of products in context. What does that mean? Lose the white backdrop and place these products in their natural environment. You can submit up to 20 Photos and win $150 per Photo! 

 

Shooting Guidelines: 

• Product should be the main object, nothing from the context should distract from the product.
• Photos should not have people/faces in the frame.
• Photo quality has to be first class with an “inspirational” touch.
• Photo has to have a clean and appealing background.
• Photo should convey the look and feel of a nice object in a context that feels authentic yet composed.
• Set has to show “natural habitat” of the product.
• Set has to fit one of the two themes: Prepare for Summer or Summer of Sports

 

Prepare for Summer:

• eBay is looking for Photos of products that you’ll need to enjoy a fabulous summer vacation away or at home on your balcony:

  • Men’s T-shirts
  • Women’s Jeans

• We're also open to Photos of other products that you think will fit the category.
• Photos should capture that summer feeling but shouldn’t be too aspirational (i.e. Caribbean Beach).
• Make sure the context of the product is realistic and authentic (i.e. DO NOT put a PlayStation in the grass).

 

Summer of Sports:

• eBay is looking for Photos of products that you’ll need to get fit and enjoy sports this summer:
  • Men’s and Women’s Fitness Clothes
  • Men’s and Women’s Beachwear
  • Running Shoes
  • Cycling Clothes
  • Women’s Sandals
  • Sports Bags
  • Golf Clubs
• We're also open to Photos of other products that you think will fit the category.
• Make sure the context of the product is realistic and authentic.

 

Remember, this is not just about how well you shoot the product itself, but also about how well you shoot the product in a natural and appealing environment.

--Executional Mandatories:

• Products should be inspirational.
• Unless requested, DO NOT USE BRANDED ITEMS. 
• Unless requested, do not use items that can be easily recognized as a specific brand even without a logo (i.e. Apple Products).
• Please do not use copyrighted images or other photographs in your Photos. The same applies to concerts and other public performances (unless you have releases from all the performers and spectators).
  • Artwork is only allowed if it is displayed in public or on public property (i.e. on the street).
  • The public artwork should be permanent (i.e. a long standing mural).
  • You cannot feature artwork displayed on private grounds or private institutions (i.e. in a gallery or museum).

 

Photos should be shot at the highest resolution your camera allows for. Upon being notified that the sponsor is going to purchase your photo you will have to format your Image in a program such as Adobe Photoshop to meet the following specs:

• Color system: RGB or CMYK
• Resolution: Minimum of 300dpi
• Size: 11114 x 14008 pixels or 840 x 1186mm (A0 paper size)

 

--Tone: These images should feel more editorial than catalogue in nature. They should have:

• An editorial look and feel
• A place in context
• Multiple objects shot in the same frame (do not use Photoshop to group objects)
• Natural-style lighting
• Obvious focus on intended products (avoid distracting backgrounds)

 

--Exposure: Print and Digital Media

 

 

This project will be worth a total of $3,000 and consists of a Photo Phase. Be sure to read the following information carefully as well as the Official Rules.

 

PHASE 1: Photo – Submit your Photo for the Prepare for Summer or Summer of Sports Theme. Photos should be shot at the highest resolution your camera allows for. Upon being notified that the sponsor is going to purchase your photo you will have to format your Image in a program such as Adobe Photoshop to meet the following specs: 

• Color system: RGB or CMYK
• Resolution: Minimum of 300dpi
• Size: 11114 x 14008 pixels or 840 x 1186mm (A0 paper size)

 

The 10 Photos that best follow each Theme and meets the requirements will be selected and, upon submitting the Winner’s Affidavit and the IP Assignment, will each receive $150. 

 

 

1. Photo must follow the following specifications:  Color system: RGB or CMYK; Resolution: Minimum of 300dpi; Size: 11114 x 14008 pixels or 840 x 1186mm (A0 paper size). Winning Photo Creators are also required to submit the RAW image file or untouched image in order to receive payment.

 

2. Unless provided otherwise, all work must be your own original creation and free of any copyrighted material. You shall provide detailed information of your work regarding the source, the creator and background information as requested by Tongal.

 

3. By submitting an entry, you grant and convey to Tongal all right, title, and interest in and to your entry and acknowledge and agree that Tongal shall have all ownership rights relating to such entry; provided that, in the event your entry is not selected as a winner of the Photo phase, then all rights in and to such entry shall automatically reconvey to you.

 

4. Submissions cannot contain any profanity, offensive language, nudity or otherwise objectionable material, the determination of which is solely at the discretion of Sponsor.

 

5. Submissions must not portray Sponsor in a negative way, the determination of which will solely reside with Sponsor.

 

6. Limit 20 submissions per member, per Phase.

 

7. You must be at least thirteen (13) years or older to enter.

8. In the event that fewer than 300 Photos are received, the Sponsor reserves the right to repost the contest for up to fourteen (14) days at their discretion.

9. The Sponsor will be entitled to reasonable revisions on the Photo submissions without providing additional compensation.

10. In addition to the standard Tongal W-9, Winner Affidavit, and IP Assignment, winning Photo creators MUST also provide Talent, Location, (or other) Releases for all assets appearing in their winning Photos, as well as a copy of a photo ID for all models’ Talent releases. Winning Photo Creators are also required to submit the RAW image file or untouched image in order to receive payment.
