Background

The last time we asked, “What does LEGO mean to you?” we had an overwhelming response. With over 600 Idea submissions and 30 Video entries, we could easily see how deeply LEGO touched the lives of Tongalers.

Since 2012 a lot has changed, but the LEGO bricks remain the same. In fact, a LEGO brick from 1958 would still interlock with a LEGO brick made today. And so, we present you with the same question, "What does LEGO mean to you?"

Take advantage of the Thanksgiving holiday and go beyond yourself and ask your friends and family, “What does LEGO mean to you?” Turn the cameras on them and capture the joy and magic LEGO bricks bring to those you love the most.

Whether LEGO bricks bring back memories of family time or whether LEGO bricks give you another medium to express yourself, we want to know how these seemingly simple interlocking bricks inspire the imaginations of you and those around you.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

Objectives

The goal of this project is to create an authentic and personal 90-120 second Video (with a 15 second trailer) around stories and experiences of what or how LEGO has influenced or left an indelible mark on yours or someone you knows life.

We want you to show what about the LEGO brand, persona, and essence that make LEGO bricks have such an emotional impact on so many people. We want viewers to takeaway that LEGO is not only a brand but also an experience that touches people’s lives.

NOTE: Unlike most projects the 15 second Trailer is due BEFORE the Video. While you are welcome to submit both at the same time, we encourage you to just focus on the trailer first. Please upload them as separate videos when submitting your Videos.

The THREE (3) most compelling Pitches will be selected and, upon submitting the Winner’s Affidavit and the IP Assignment, will each receive $3,000 to help create the Video. Additionally, upon submitting a Video that satisfies the criteria laid out in your winning Pitch, the Pitch winners will also be GUARANTEED a winning place in the subsequent Video Phase. So, if your Pitch is selected and you execute your Pitch effectively in your Video submission, you will win an additional $8,000, at a minimum, and have a chance to compete for the $14,000 First Place Video prize. For an example of an effective Pitch, check out Erik Beck’s winning “3 Artists & 5,000 LEGOs” Pitch video. All Pitches will remain private until after the winner of the Video Phase is announced and the Project is complete.

PHASE 2: TRAILER – The THREE (3) winners from the Trailer Phase will each create a 15 second Trailer based upon their winning Pitch.

YOU WILL BE DISQUALIFIED FROM THE COMPETITION IF YOU DO NOT SUBMIT YOUR 15 SECOND TRAILER BY DECEMBER 22.
