Nextdoor is where communities come together to greet newcomers, exchange recommendations, and read the latest local news. It's where neighbors support local businesses and get updates from public agencies, or borrow tools and sell couches. It's how to get the most out of everything nearby.
REFERENCE VIDEOS FOR INSPIRATION OR TONE:
PROJECT UPDATE: We are switching the project direction and closing the project on Monday, August 30. If you are currently in production and making a video please email info@tongal.com
No one knows your neighborhood better than you. You know where to get the most post-worthy coffee, but also where to get the best-tasting coffee (and yes, there IS a difference). You know which parks are best for picnics with friends, and which parks are best for your dogs to run around. You know which neighbor likes to talk on the phone, and which neighbor likes to talk to himself (he's prepping for a town council meeting, okay?). And most importantly, you are proud to be a part of your community.
Nextdoor is looking for enthusiastic creators, like yourself, to share stories about your neighborhood. We're looking for authentic, homemade, docu-style videos - up to :90 in length - that celebrate the people, places, and stories that make YOUR neighborhood unique! We're not asking you to create advertising content for Nextdoor; this is really about celebrating your own neighborhood, in your own words. There are a few good examples of videos just like this in the Background, but this isn't about a big professional shoot, and you can submit something made with footage that you shot on your phone. No Nextdoor logo or branding is needed for your video either.
We want to show that Nextdoor is not just about finding lost pets or local plumbers - neighbors can also create, discover, and share amazing content that celebrates anything and everything in the neighborhood! Plus, Nextdoor wants to build long-term relationships with the top creators in this project.
Creators whose submissions are selected will ultimately have to provide releases for their talent, locations, and any photography or artwork sourced from other neighbors. More information about that is in Executional Mandatories, but for any questions or other project updates, check out the Project Forum.

EXECUTIONAL MANDATORIES:
- You must be registered as a member of Nextdoor by the time the video phase ends (August 23) for your submission to be considered. Video submission must abide by Nextdoor community guidelines.
- If your video is selected, you will be asked to submit a signed talent release for each person who appears prominently on-screen, as well as a location release for each location you use to film your video. If any children or other minors appear in the video, their parents or legal guardians must sign the talent release on their behalf. Releases will not be required if your video is not selected, and if you have any issues with releases, revisions *may* be requested to remove footage that isn't cleared.
- You MAY NOT use any third-party video footage (like a local business's promotional video, or a charity event's video) without getting a signed photo/video release. If you're using someone else's photography, or you're depicting local artwork, you may also be asked to provide releases for those as well.
- You should source any music from the Music Providers listed in the Project Requirements.
- You should AVOID showing third-party brands or IP (e.g. no Nike, Adidas, NFL sports teams, car manufacturers, etc. visible via logos on shirts, hats, shoes, etc.). When in doubt please ask in theforum.
- If you are using your phone to capture the video, please make sure you are filming in 1080p and at 30FPS (if your phone has a 23.98 FPS setting, that'd be even better).
In order to be considered for this project, you must include the below materials:
- TEXT (REQUIRED): Up to 500 characters synopsizing what your video is about.
- VIDEO (REQUIRED): A neighborhood story video up to :90 (9x16 or 16x9), at max 200 MB. Supported video formats are .mov, .avi, .mpg, .mpeg, and .mp4.
- LOCATION (REQUIRED): Which neighborhood you live in. Please include City and State.
- NEXTDOOR POST (REQUIRED): URL of your Nextdoor video post.
- SOCIAL HANDLES (REQUIRED): Please send links to your most active social channels (e.g. Instagram, Twitter, TikTok)
Please note, if you are selected as a winner, you will be required to submit a talent release for ALL individuals appearing in your video. You may also be asked to submit a location release. You can find both releases in the Assets tab.
