We don't know what the holidays are going to be like this year, but we know they're going to be different, so it's tough not to approach the end of the year feeling a little more subdued. Still, 2020's also given us so many examples of the ingenuity and hopeful exuberance of the human spirit, and we've all heard stories about how far people go to ensure that special occasions can still feel special for the ones they love - even when they can only be together virtually. This holiday season, PayPal wants to embrace that sense of optimism and empowerment, so they're looking for individual video concepts with short heartwarming stories about people creating memorable holiday experiences.

Since PayPal enables so much of the commerce that drives the season, the basic idea is that each short :30 video will tell a quick story where someone purchases different items online (where they'd checkout with PayPal), and with those items, they're able to do something unique and memorable. They'll be using the tagline, "Let's make it one to remember."

This is not necessarily about "gifts." This Apple holiday spot from 2019 is a great narrative and tonal reference, because it's a sweet story about two children using the brand's tech to create a video slide show for their family, in memory of their grandmother. It's not a story about a physical gift; it's a story about a thoughtful and unexpected gesture.

Holiday experiences can be "virtual," but we're also open to in-person experiences as long as they reflect social distancing and safe interactions with smaller groups. They should also be relatable and feel accessible to most people, since this year's going to be tough for a lot of us financially. It might also help to think about some of the creative COVID-era birthday and wedding celebrations you might have seen online - they could be good inspiration too. No need for true stories here though - be creative.
