What’s in a name? Actually, a lot more than you’d think and a big-time, super-secret anonymous sponsor is launching a new, exciting program that needs a great one.
The right name can do a lot, convey a lot and mean a lot. For example, the name of your favorite website, “Tongal,” is actually an anagram for a certain British statistician who proved that that a crowd’s guesses were more accurate than any one of its individual members…how fitting.
A key component of this new program is a website where the workflow will mirror the following:
1. Thought Leaders submit Challenges to the community in the form of topical questions.
2. Users will then submit video content that answers the challenge topic.
3. The community and the submitters can then browse and rate content so that the best videos rise to the top.
4. Additionally, Thought Leaders, or mentors, from each topic will be viewing submitted content, engaging with users, and ultimately providing once-in-a-lifetime opportunities for the top picks.
The program’s tagline is “Create. Connect. Be noticed.” And since the endeavor is fueled by a community, our mystery sponsor thought it very fitting that the name should come from a community as well.
Name It! The overarching goal for this campaign is for the Sponsor to come away with a name that is memorable, timeless, and captures the essence of the program. The ideal name will also be descriptive enough to convey the essence of the program without additional cues. It can be a made up name, but it shouldn’t be too difficult to spell or be too close to something already in existence. Lastly, the sponsor is also keen to the idea of something that evokes an emotional attachment.
--Larger Goals: To grow an inclusive community that fosters creativity and provides unique recognition and access to exclusive tools and experiences that are once-in-a-lifetime for most people.
--Target Audience: We are looking to appeal to a very broad audience (film buffs, tech and info junkies, sports enthusiasts, home makers, etc.).
--Exposure: The sponsor will be hosting the website on the domain name chosen. The name will also be the name of the program and all promotional outreach, collateral, literature and brand identity and design will be based off this name.
This project will be worth a total of $5,000 and will consist of one phase.
PHASE 1: NAME – Come up with a creative, original, memorable and timeless name for this new program. In the “title” section of the submission form, place your name for the new program and, in the body, feel free to add any color that you think might support your submission. The name needs to be unique enough to be trademarked and the .com URL needs to be available. Submitters should do a preliminary search to see if their name idea and corresponding .com URL is already taken. (For example: they should go to a site like GoDaddy to see the domain name they’ve thought of is taken). This is very important because the sponsor cannot use any names or URLs that are already out there.
--BONUS: If one of the winning names from the previous phase is selected to live on as the actual name for this program, the creator of that name will receive a $2,500 bonus.
