Background

FOR FILMMAKERS PLANNING TO PITCH:  Please note the Sponsor would like to use the winning Concept Persistent Mom Vision (PMV)  as a framing device for the other winning scenarios. For your scripts and treatments tell us how you would use PMV to weave the other scenarios together in a single video. Also, even though it’s not written into the idea PMV should not only involve moms being extremely positive about their children but also their uncanny ability to detect danger before it happens.

Protective Life understands how hard mom’s work to provide a great life and shape a bright future for their children. It’s an incomparable experience filled with laughter, joy, chaos, and above all else, love. And a big attributing factor to this wild ride we call parenthood is that moms have the instinctual ability to see things a little differently. Whether it’s sensing danger lurking around the corner or seeing the best in her children, their “mommy goggles” help protect the future they envision for their little ones.

This is where you come in. To showcase their appreciation for all of the super-power moms out there, Protective needs your help to create a heartwarming and relatable Video, that shows just exactly how moms see the world more deeply and differently, specifically when it comes to moments with their children. There are two distinct kinds of “mommy goggles” they want to bring to light, with humorous, touching, and memorable scenarios:

1.) Mom sees danger before it happens.

Whether it’s a hot teapot, a vase about to be knocked over, or somebody wading a little close to the deep end of the pool, moms see danger for their kids before it happens.  Call it a sixth sense, call it a force field – we know everybody has a story like this.  Whether you are the mom, know the mom, or this was your mom – tell us your story of moms seeing around the corner to keep kids safe. Big danger or small – it’s all about the anticipation and this unique way moms demonstrate their love.

2) Mom sees the best in her children in every gesture, in every moment.

No one sees the beauty in everything you’ve ever done or made as much as your mom does, every time. Is it a new crayon picture of the family? To mom, it’s as good as Rembrandt.  And that clutch of dandelions for Mother’s Day – don’t try to tell mom it’s not the most beautiful bouquet she’s ever seen.  Is her son’s voice a little off at the school musical?  Pavarotti should be so lucky!

Check the objectives tab below for more important information!

Objectives

The goal of this project is to create a celebratory and poignant 60-90 second Video with a 15-second teaser that demonstrates how moms have an inherent ability to see the world through a different lens. We want this to be a salute to moms and all their awesomeness, so tonally, it’s important that you strike a good balance between tenderness and humor.

Your Video should use a visual device that illustrates the lens through which moms view their children – pushing past the chaos, making room for the sweetness and tenderness to shine through. Creatively, think about how you would make the visual distinction and communicate “mommy goggles” / and reality.

Ideators, Concepts can be based on a true story or be your own creation, either way they need to have a sense of authenticity and relatability – we want moms to be able to connect with others moms knowing they’re in this together. Think of scenarios that hit a range of emotions, without poking fun at moms. When submitting your Concepts, you will need to select from the drop-down menu which “vision” your Concept relates to:

The ability for moms to sense impending danger to demonstrate their love and protection. Remember, these Concepts should be lighthearted and humorous, nothing too ominous.

The birthday rock they gave to you for your birthday? It now suddenly has the artistic integrity of Auguste Rodin. Think of fun and playful scenarios where “mommy goggles” have given infinite optimism and beauty situations regarding their kids

.

*Extra Credit: Although not required, if you want to give us an alternative to the term “mommy goggles” feel free to throw in an option with your Concepts in the "hook" text box. Remember we want moms to get a kick out of this – but we also want them to feel great about it!

Filmmakers, when pulling together your materials, you will need to communicate how you would string together a narrative based on ALL of the awarded Concepts, not just one. Your job will be to pull these scenarios together in an artful and involving way and to pivot seamlessly from the “Danger” to “Seeing The Best” while keeping the story flowing and pulling viewers forward. Nailing the script is imperative for this project, therefore, you will be required to submit your planned screenwriter, along with a script, in the Pitch Phase.

Primarily, these videos are designed to run on Facebook, so you should look to create something that is visually captivating and designed to work even without sound. Additionally, these videos will run on YouTube, so you will need to deliver two assets per deliverable - one version optimized for Facebook and one version optimized for YouTube. There is a guide in the Assets tab on these best practices, but here are the high-level call outs:

Facebook Best Practices:

This has to catch audiences’ attention within the first 3 seconds. That means it has to be visually engaging from the get go, the punch line does not come at the end of the spot. Your story must be able to be understood without sound. Your cut needs to include graphic subtitles – see the best practices document for how this is effectively done. This will also have to be cut for a 1:1 and 2:3 aspect ratio so make sure the critical action happens in the center of the frame. See our slide in assets for more information.

YouTube Best Practices:

This has to catch the audience’s attention within the first 5 seconds. You can use audio to do this. We recommend putting the most interesting visual pieces of the video within these first 5 seconds to keep viewers engaged, instead of showcasing the brand name or branded packaging. This means the punch line doesn’t come at the end of the spot. See our slide in assets for more information.

DELIVERABLES: At the close of the Video Phase, you will be responsible for delivering the following:

PRE-PRODUCTION NOTES: This project includes a Pre-Production Phase (What is a Pre-Production Phase?). This means you will be required to submit certain items for Approval before moving onto the Video Phase. The Approval items for this project are:

SCRIPT  – This project requires Script Approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. The brand may provide feedback on your Script and ask you to submit a new version. There may be multiple rounds of feedback until a Script is approved by the brand.

HEADSHOT  – This project requires Headshot Approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. You must submit at least two actor options per role. If the brand does not approve either of your options for a role, you may be asked to submit two new actor options.

LOCATION - This project requires Location Approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. This means you will need to submit multiple images of your primary filming. The brand may provide feedback on your location and ask you to submit additional photos or to find a new location and submit images for that.

IMPORTANT: No filmmakers may begin shooting their Video until all Approvals are completed and the Video Phase has officially begun. If you begin shooting your Video during the Pre-Production Phase, there is a chance you will need to reshoot (at your own expense) so please don’t jump the gun.

If you’re selected as a Pitch Winner, a Tongal producer will email you to help walk you through the Pre-Production and Approvals process.

Details

This Project will be worth a total of $35,000 and consists of  5 Phases: a Concept Phase, a Pitch Phase, a Pre-Production Phase, a Video Phase and a Revisions Phase. Be sure to read the following information carefully as well as the Official Rules.

PHASE 1: CONCEPT – Tell us your Concept in 250 characters or less. Remember, a Concept is not a detailed script; it is a spark of inspiration or a distillation of what will happen in the Video. As always, Concepts should be clever and engaging. The winning Concept creators will receive $500 each. See Video Phase Payout details for more information.

PHASE 2: PITCH - Submit your Pitch (What is a Pitch Phase?) convincing the Sponsor why you should be selected to execute a Video based on one of the winning Ideas from the previous Phase using:

The most compelling Pitch will be selected and, upon submitting the Winner’s Affidavit and the IP Assignment, will receive $12,000 to help create the Video. Additionally, upon submitting a Video that satisfies the criteria laid out in your winning Pitch, the Pitch winner will also be GUARANTEED a winning place in the subsequent Video Phase.  So, if your Pitch is selected and you execute your Pitch effectively in your Video submission, you will win an additional $20,000 Video prize. For an example of an effective Pitch, check out The Indie Machines winning “3 Artists & 5,000 LEGOs” Pitch video. All Pitches will remain private until after the winner of the Video Phase is announced and the Project is complete.

PHASE 3: PRE-PRODUCTION – The Pitch Winner from the Pitch Phase will enter the Pre-Production Phase (What is a Pre-Production Phase?). During this phase, filmmakers will need to receive the following Approvals from the brand:

SCRIPT  – This project requires Script Approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. The brand may provide feedback on your Script and ask you to submit a new version. There may be multiple rounds of feedback until a Script is approved by the brand.

HEADSHOT  – This project requires Headshot Approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. You must submit at least two actor options per role. If the brand does not approve either of your options for a role, you may be asked to submit two new actor options.

LOCATION - This project requires Location Approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. This means you will need to submit multiple images of your primary location. PHASE 4: VIDEO – Once the Pre-Production Phase is complete, the Pitch Winner will create a 60-90 second Video with a 15-second teaser and up to 3 behind the scenes outtakes, along with a 2D branded end-card.

NOTE: The 60-90 second video, 15-second teaser, and up to 3 Behind the Scenes outtakes are all due at the close of the Video Phase. You will need to submit one version optimized for Facebook and one version optimized for Youtube per deliverable. Please upload them as separate videos when submitting your Videos.

--Video Phase Payout: The winner of the Video Phase will earn $20,000

--Music: Tongal has partnered with three premiere music providers: Jingle Punks, Killer Tracks and Epidemic Sound. Any of which can be used to source music for your Video submission to this Project. Music from these providers is available to registered Tongal members at no charge solely for their incorporation into Submissions to this Project and will not require a separate Music Release Form. To learn more about using each of these music providers, click on any of the provider’s names above.

Tongal members interested in a custom music solution for your project are invited to connect with SCORE A SCORE. They specialize in the creation of custom music, on-demand.

Their business model is based on a "name your price" system, so you can tell them what your budget is, and they will work with you to create a deal configuration that will work within the discussed parameters. Check out the FAQ for more information and how to contact SCORE A SCORE.

If you are selected as a winner and choose to use custom/original music, you must fill out and submit our Music Release Form. If you obtain music from other catalog providers, you must purchase the appropriate license at your own expense and submit it with our Music Release Form when you turn in your Video paperwork.

--Referral: Any Tongal member who refers one of the winning Video creators in this Project using the Tongal “Invite Friends” functionality will receive a referral fee equal to 5% of the amount won. That’s a potential of up to $500 in bonus cash just for telling all of your talented friends about this Project! Check out more about our Referral Program in FAQ.

PHASE 5: REVISIONS – Once the Video Phase has closed, the winning submitters will enter the Revisions Phase. During this phase, filmmakers will perform reasonable edits on their Videos according to the Sponsor’s feedback. Once the Videos are finalized, the Sponsor will rank the Videos and winners will be announced.
