Background

Anyone who has people depending on them – kids, a spouse, an aging parent -- wants to make sure their loved ones are taken care of if something happens to them. But life shouldn’t be all doom and gloom. It’s an adventure and one you want to experience with the people you care about. On a nice day you want to be hiking or surfing, not rummaging through the couch for spare change to add to the emergency fund.

Well don’t fret – Protective’s got your back. For over 100 years, they’ve been providing affordable life insurance so people can relax and enjoy their lives with the knowledge that they’ve made a financially responsible choice. Their motto is “Protect Tomorrow. Embrace Today.”

It’s time to quit worrying, and Protective wants your help spreading the message. They’re looking for ideas that illustrate how great life can be when you don’t have to worry about protection for your loved ones, and you’re free to enjoy your time. Ideas can be true or fictional but they should be fun and optimistic. Check the Objectives tab for more info.

Objectives

The goal of this project is to create an engaging and entertaining 30-90 second Video (with a 15 second cutdown) that shows how you can enjoy your life and your family once you’re free – free from worry because you have a life insurance policy with Protective.

Videos should be fun and upbeat and shouldn’t feel like a traditional life insurance commercial. The focus should be on how you can enjoy your life not on features/benefits of a life insurance product.

NOTE: The 30 – 90 second video and 15 second cut-down are both due at the close of the Video Phase.  Please upload them as separate videos when submitting your Videos.

Bumper Note: You will need to create your own bumper/end graphic for your Video. You can find logos to use in your bumper in the Assets tab.

--Key Marketing Messages:

--Target Audience: Young families (age 25-49) with children – usually having their second or third child.  This group is also likely to have single parents or even be a provider for an aging parent or providing for someone who is not their child. This audience has a DIY mindset, and they are likely to want to make some responsible financial decisions, document them and then move on: “fix it and forget it.”  Often their motivation for buying life insurance has more to do with ensuring they don’t leave their family or loved ones in a bind and they don’t leave a family in turmoil.  They don’t want their family to think poorly of them if they die unexpectedly.

--Executional Mandatories:

--Tone: Engaging, entertaining and humorous. Protective’s brand persona is approachable and warm. Humor is highly encouraged but please nothing dark.

--Exposure: Protective’s digital and social channels, including the company blog and email communications.

Details

This Project will be worth a total of $17,500 and consists of three Phases: an Idea Phase, a Pitch Phase and a Video Phase. Be sure to read the following information carefully as well as the Official Rules.

PHASE 1: IDEA  – Tell us your Idea for Protective Video in 140 characters or less.  Remember, an Idea (What is an Idea Phase?) is not a detailed script; it is a spark of inspiration, or a distillation of what will happen in the Video.  As always, Ideas should be clever and engaging.  The winning Idea creators will receive $250 each and a 5% one-time residual payment for any winning Videos based on their Idea. (That means if your winning Idea is the basis for the 1st place Video, you will receive $600) – see Video Phase Payout details for more information.

PHASE 2: PITCH - Submit your Pitch (What Is a Pitch Phase?) convincing the Sponsor why you should be selected to execute a Video based on one of the winning Ideas from the previous Phase using:

The most compelling Pitch will be selected and, upon submitting the Winner’s Affidavit and the IP Assignment, will each receive $5,000 to help create the Video.  Additionally, upon submitting a Video that satisfies the criteria laid out in your winning Pitch, the Pitch winner will also be GUARANTEED a winning place in the subsequent Video Phase.  So, if your Pitch is selected and you execute your Pitch effectively in your Video submission, you will win an additional $12,000 (subject to deduction for one-time 5% residual payment to eligible Idea winners). For an example of an effective Pitch, check out Erik Beck’s winning “3 Artists & 5,000 LEGOs” Pitch video. All Pitches will remain private until after the winner of the Video Phase is announced and the Project is complete.

PHASE 3: VIDEO – The winner from the Pitch Phase will create a 30 – 90 second Video (with a 15 second cutdown) based upon their winning Pitch.

NOTE: The 30 – 90 second video and 15 second cut-down are both due at the close of the Video Phase. Please upload them as separate videos when submitting your Videos.

--Video Phase Payout: The winner of the Video Phase will earn the following prize: 1st place $12,000 (less any 5% one-time residual payments paid to the Idea winners, as applicable).

--Music:  Tongal has partnered with three premiere music providers: Audioblocks, Killer Tracks and Epidemic Sound. Any of which can be used to source music for your Video submission to this Project. You may use up to THREE total tracks per Video submission, and they can come from any of the three providers listed above. Music from these providers is available to registered Tongal members at no charge solely for their incorporation into Submissions to this Project and will not require a separate Music Release Form. To learn more about using each of these music providers, click on any of the provider’s names above.

If you are selected as a winner and choose to use custom/original music, you must fill out and submit our Music Release Form. If you obtain music from other catalog providers, you must purchase the appropriate license at your own expense and submit it with our Music Release Form when you turn in your Video paperwork.

--Referral: Any Tongal member who refers one of the winning Video creators in this Project using the Tongal “Invite Friends” functionality will receive a referral fee equal to 5% of the amount won. That’s a potential $500 (up to $500 per place) in bonus cash just for telling all of your talented friends about this Project! Check out more about our Referral Program in FAQ.
