Background

***This project is looking for Series Ideas specifically about National Geographic Explorers. We are running a separate project for more general ideas that would play well on National Geographic’s social channels. You can check that project out here.***

Explorers push the boundaries of what’s possible in order to further our understanding of the world and National Geographic has been at their side every step of the way.

National Geographic created the Explorers program to recognize and support inspiring adventurers, scientists, conservationists and storytellers across the globe. Every year, a new group of bold and exciting pioneers are named “Explorers” and receive grants to further their research and findings. These risk-takers and innovators are at the cutting edge of what exploration means today.

But despite their superhuman feats, these future world-changers are still people and National Geographic wants their followers to connect with Explorers on a personal level, not as just a name in a textbook. The brand wants to make Explorers relatable by sharing their motivations, their hopes, their fears, their sucesses and their failures with the world.

National Geographic wants people everywhere to realize that exploration is more accessible than we think. But they need your help, Tongalers. We’re looking for ideas for digital content series and formats that can live on National Geographic’s social media channels. Series Ideas that will make these distinguished Explorers more accessible and relevant to the average person. How can we connect these pioneers with the casually curious and help them fuse an emotional bond with their followers?

Here are just a few of the extraordinary Explorers that National Geographic supports. Check out the links below to learn what they’re working on:

Dig into the list above and learn about each Explorer’s story. Then think about innovative ways the Explorers can excite and engage National Geographic’s followers. How can we make their stories come to life and get people interested in not only their work, but the Explorers themselves?

Then give us a memorable Series Idea in 250 characters or less. Tell us which platform your Idea is intended for by choosing from the dropdown menu on the submission page. Check the objectives section for more details.

What is a Social Media Series Idea?

Series Ideas are concepts for ongoing content that extends a brand’s Campaign Idea to various platforms. They could be everything from creating a funny web series about competitive sisters to producing an adorable series about what it’s like to get a puppy. Your Series Ideas should be intended for one of the following social platforms:
