Background

Changing the world by supporting those in need is more than just a nice idea, it is the underlying belief of the nonprofit Mindtree Foundation. As the Corporate Social Responsibility arm of Mindtree (a ~$1 Bn revenue company and a leader in IT Services and Technology, co-headquartered in the US and India), they are dedicated to fostering education, supporting people with disabilities, and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities.

You may have seen our previous Concept Project where we identified three great starting points, but now we need your filmmaking skills, Tongalers, to bring them to life. Take a look in the Project Objectives section and choose a concept that speaks to you, keeping in mind our main goal is to raise awareness of the essential philanthropic work the Mindtree Foundation does in building a better future for communities around the world through the act of giving.

We aren’t looking for the typical stat driven video seen all over Facebook. Communities are more than cold hard numbers, so we want to focus on the people and lives that are touched by the Mindtree Foundation’s mission of giving.

Please read through the Objectives section for essential instructions…

Objectives

We are looking for an emotional and inspirational 2-4 minute video that raises awareness of the social responsibility efforts that the Mindtree Foundation undertakes.  A large majority of the organizations Mindtree supports (see Assets tab) are based in and around Bangalore, India. So, filmmakers will likely have to travel there to profile multiple partners. Filmmakers are responsible for all travel costs using the given Production Budget. Please see the assets tab for the full project timeline.

The Mindtree Foundation holds itself accountable to the community that we live in and aims to make a deep and lasting impact on education, livelihood, and creating a better world for people with disabilities. They do this through 3 focus areas listed in the Mindtree CSR Policy that should serve as center focus for the video and these are:

Because Mindtree Foundation’s mission is so community oriented the video concept should be people-centric and tell a moving story that motivates the viewer to want to learn more and be their own giver.

You will choose between three Concepts identified below to continue to develop and then pitch for your take on the video:

Concept 1: “Be a Part of Her Story” – A video that takes the cues of an inspiring movie and follows a day in the life of a young girl, her home, struggles, and the impact Mindtree has on her life.

Concept 2: “See How Mindtree Gives” – A tree stands as a representation of Mindtree’s aim to give. The imagery is up to you, but we might see school lessons being taught beneath its shade, elsewhere, a family takes shelter under its branches.

Concept 3: “The Magic of Mindtree” – Using some visual trickery create transitions that bridge a number of Mindtree’s exciting programs alongside VO narration explaining Mindtree’s social impact. For example: A woman takes a dollar bill out of her pocket and passes it off screen, it is then transformed into a science lab kit that is received by a young boy who works on it and so on.

Keep in mind that this video will need to highlight actual programs that make Mindtree special to the communities it serves. Please see the document outlining all of MindTree’s active programs in the Assets tab below.

Details

This Project will be worth a total of $20,000 and consists of 5 Phases: A Pitch Phase, a Pre-Production Phase, a Video Phase, a Revisions Phase, and an Assets Delivery Phase. Be sure to read the following information carefully as well as the Official Rules.

PHASE 1: PITCH

Submit your Pitch (What is a Pitch Phase?) convincing the Sponsor why you should be selected to execute a Video based on one of the winning Ideas from the previous Phase using:

The most compelling Pitch will be selected and, upon submitting the Winner’s Affidavit and the IP Assignment, will receive $10000 to help create the Video.  Please note the payment of the Pitch award is subject to a payment schedule determined by Tongal. Additionally, upon submitting a Video that satisfies the criteria laid out in your winning Pitch, completing Sponsor notes, providing the necessary release forms, and providing all assets required by the sponsor the Pitch winner will receive a final payment of $10000. For an example of an effective Pitch, check out The Indie Machines winning “3 Artists & 5,000 LEGOs” Pitch video. All Pitches will remain private until after the winner of the Video Phase is announced and the Project is complete.

PHASE 3: PRE-PRODUCTION – The # of Pitch Winners from the Pitch Phase will enter the Pre-Production Phase (What is a Pre-Production Phase?). During this phase, filmmakers will need to receive the following Approvals from the brand:

No filmmakers may begin shooting their Video until all Approvals are completed and the Video Phase has officially begun. If you begin shooting your Video during the Pre-Production Phase before you have received final approval, there is a chance you will need to reshoot (at your own expense).

For your convenience we’ve provided some helpful templates to use at your discretion. They include templates for creating a Treatment, Production Budget, Storyboards, Shot List, Call Sheet, and a Music Cue Sheet.  They can all be accessed here.

PHASE 5: VIDEO – Once the Pre-Production Phase is complete, the Pitch Winner will create a 2-4 minute Video based upon their winning Pitch.

--Music:  Tongal has partnered with three premiere music providers: Jingle Punks, Killer Tracks and Epidemic Sound, any of which can be used to source music for your Video submission to this Project. Music from these providers is available to registered Tongal members at no charge solely for their incorporation into Submissions to this Project and will not require a separate Music Release Form. To learn more about using each of these music providers, click on any of the provider’s names above.

Tongal members interested in a more customized music solution for your project are invited to connect with our partner Score A Score. Email a brief description of your project (timing, creative, budget, etc.), along with any specific music direction and/or references to their creative team at music@scoreascore.com and include “Tongal Project - Your Name” in the subject line.  Their creative team will be in touch within a few minutes to discuss the simple process and options with you. Please note that you will be responsible for the fees associated with using Score A Score.

If you are selected as a winner and choose to use custom/original music, you must fill out and submit our Music Release Form. If you obtain music from third-party catalog providers, you must purchase the appropriate license at your own expense and submit it with your license purchase receipt when you turn in your Video paperwork.

PHASE 6: REVISIONS – Once the Video Phase has closed, the winning submitters will enter the Revisions Phase (What is a Revisions Phase?). During this phase, filmmakers will perform reasonable edits on their Videos according to the Sponsor’s feedback.

PHASE 7: ASSETS DELIVERY - You must also provide all project files, editing sequences, and a 1080p .mov master file, using a ProRes, Animation, or Uncompressed Codec in order to submit final payment. In addition to the project files, you are also required to provide all raw footage on a hard drive. You will be responsible for the costs associated with the hard drive and shipping.
