Background

We’re drawing inspiration from the serialized, mobile-first storytelling boom seen on platforms like the ones below. These shows thrive on outrageous cliffhangers, fast pacing, and addictive episodic structure, which we’re pairing with social commentary and creator-driven flair. This project is designed to feel native to vertical platforms (like TikTok, IG Reels, and YouTube Shorts) while carving out a new, funny, and chaotic narrative lanes.

Objectives

Tongal is looking for sharp, funny minds to help launch a new wave of vertical, satirical micro-dramas, comedic, chaotic, and totally addictive. Think: if Succession, SNL, and scroll culture had a wild little baby… in portrait mode. Inspired by the rise of serialized mobile storytelling platforms like ReelShort and China’s viral “micro-dramas,” we’re kicking off a social-first content initiative that flips the genre on its head by injecting comedy, commentary, and community-powered endings.

Each story will unfold in bite-sized, 60-second vertical episodes, stylized like social content but tightly scripted with cliffhangers, absurd twists, and sharp jabs at modern life. We’re asking writers to pitch concepts that satirize everything from tech bros to toxic wellness to awkward Hinge dates, anything with a distinct comedic POV and binge-worthy drama.

This round, we’re commissioning five pilot episodes (you can pitch one to five pilots), bring them to life, and the Tongal community will vote on which storylines continue. If this sounds like your kind of creative chaos, created a treatment detailing your concept(s), how you'll pull it off, and samples that highlight your experience with comedy and short-form storytelling. We’re especially excited to hear from creators with backgrounds in sketch, satire, or social storytelling, and those ready to go just a little off the rails.

First Prize will have $3,000 to bring their Micro Drama Spoofs to life, second and third place will each have $1,000. There is not set timeline at this phase, Tongal will work with the greenlit creators on production schedule that works for everyone.
