Background

As anyone who has ever been away from a loved one can attest, video calling is the absolute best way of staying in touch.  But, there are shortcomings…for example, have you ever tried to chase down a toddler while holding a $2,000 laptop in one hand, pizza-box style?  Or what about trying to squeeze everyone and their cousins (literally) into frame?  Who really has the time to do the whole, “Here, let me call you before our call to make sure we’re still getting on our call” thing?  Wouldn’t it be great if you could stay in touch with the people who matter most, while (gulp) doing the least?

You probably know Logitech as a top-notch designer and manufacturer of consumer electronics in the PC, Mac, Tablet, and Music space, but recently they’ve decided to bring their innovative technology right into your living room with the Logitech TV Cam HD.  No need to attach any computer or install any software.  As long as you have an available HDMI port on your TV and an Internet connection (wi-fi or Ethernet), you can Skype video call your family and friends in a relaxed natural setting, as if you were all in the same room.   The amazing wide-angle lens allows multiple people (and pets!) to move around as they please and all fit into view without having to jockey for position.  Plus, the Logitech TV Cam HD rings just like a real phone, so you never have to schedule a video chat.

And the best part?  Video calls don’t have to just be for special occasions anymore. The Logitech TV Cam HD is so convenient that you can use it everyday, at any moment, to connect with the people who matter most.

So, whether you’re 20 minutes or 2,000 miles away, you can share these everyday moments with the people who matter the most.  Thanks to Logitech TV Cam HD, your mother can see your pretty face on a regular basis and you’ll never have to hear her utter these words again, “What am I, chopped liver?”

Objectives

Create a 30-60 second video that raises awareness of the Logitech TV Cam HD in a fun and creative way.  Cleverly communicate how this new and innovative technology lets you share everyday moments with the people that matter most.  But keep it light-hearted and funny, and when possible, tie-in pop culture – so that it's a video that people will feel compelled to share within their own social network.

--Target Audience: Active Skype users who video call for more that 1hr/wk, owners of a webcam, families (25-45 years) with children, living away from their extended families.  The bulls-eye consumer is Female between 30-38.  She is college graduate, has her own Skype account and family connections are the most important thing in her life.

--Key Marketing Messages:

 •
Logitech TV Cam HD brings Skype to your TV so you can share everyday moments with people that matter most.

 • It is the most natural way to do video-calling (freedom to move around because of wide-angle, comfortable setting, can get multiple people in a call, rings like a phone whether TV is on/off).

--Brand guidelines: Video must follow brand hierarchy of importance: Logitech>TV Cam HD> Benefits.  Use Skype logo and/or mention Skype.  While branding is paramount, the finished product must not feel like it has come from an internal corporate Logitech marketing department or agency.  We also want to make sure we’re driving brand equity for Logitech TV Cam versus Skype in the living room.

--Consumer Insight: Mom values the connection of family and she feels that this responsibility lies with her. So, she feels a personal sense of guilt when she thinks her children are missing out on the experience of being with grandparents, aunts, cousins, etc…

--Do: Focus direction around simple everyday moments.  Make interaction natural and relaxed.  Explore what “people that matter the most” means- (cousins, best friends).  Also, be conscious of who is calling who: Mom>Parent(s)= The mother enabling her parents to enjoy the grand children. Mom>Children= Enabling the mother to connect with her children even when she’s away. Children>Children= Having cousins play across the screen.

--Don't: Revolve scenarios around big Special Occasions (birthdays, graduation etc.).  Make it feel contrived or staged.  Make it a Hallmark moment or focus just on the grandparents to grandchildren.

Details

This project will be worth a total of $30,000 and consists of three phases.  Also, this tournament style process will progress differently from previous projects, so be sure to read the following information carefully.

PHASE 1: IDEA – Tell us your Idea for a 30-60 second video in 140 characters or less.  Remember, an Idea is not a detailed script; it is a moment of inspiration, or a tweet-sized distillation of what will happen in the Video.  As always, Ideas should be clever, engaging, and fun.  Winning Idea creators will each receive $250 and a 5% residual payment for every winning video their Idea is used to generate.

PHASE 2: PITCH – Using text (500 characters or less), images (storyboards), video, and external links (to other supporting assets, i.e., your reel, etc.), give us your Pitch for how YOU would go about producing this Video based on one of the winning Ideas.  The five most compelling Pitches will be selected and will receive a $500 production advance and Logitech TV Cam HD to help create their Video.  Those winners (upon submitting their Winner's Affidavit and IP Assignment) will also be GUARANTEED to place in the subsequent Video Phase.  So, if your Pitch is selected, you will earn a minimum of $1,000 with a 1-in-7 shot at the $12,000 first place video prize.  Remember your Pitch can include any, and all, of the assets mentioned above, but you MUST include a link to some of your previous video work on Tongal or elsewhere to be considered for this phase.  To avoid information cascades, all Pitches will remain private until after the video winners of the subsequent phase are announced.  Alternatively, even if you don’t win the Pitch Phase or choose not to create a pitch, you will still have the opportunity to create a “Wild Card” Video completely of your own creative devices in the subsequent Phase.

PHASE 3: VIDEO – Winning Pitch creators from the previous phase will utilize their $500 advance to create a 30-60 second video based upon their winning materials and all other creators are invited to enter a “Wild Card” submission that’s not based on any winning material from the previous phases.  Remember, the FIVE Pitch winners are GUARANTEED prizes, as are TWO of the non-pitch video creators.

--Music: Tongal has partnered with Audiosocket, a boutique music licensing and technology company representing more than 2,400 emerging bands, composers and record labels. This is not "stock" music. It is an inventory of more than 40,000 original, culturally relevant songs and music that have been compiled into a premium roster.  Audiosocket's music will be available to Tongal members at no charge solely for their incorporation into Tongal members' submissions to the Logitech Project.  Tongal members are encouraged to browse the Audiosocket roster, available by clicking on the "Audiosocket" button on the right hand side of this page. If you are interested in using a track from the Audiosocket roster, as described above, just add the track(s) you want to use to your cart using the "+cart" button, then click the "checkout" button.  Enter the Tongal project name and click the "purchase and download" button to acquire the track for free ($0.00). Lastly, click the "download track" button, which will initiate the music file download. You may only use THREE Audiosocket tracks maximum as part of your video submission.
