ATTENTION ALL FILMMAKERS: In just 6 days from now (YES, less than one week from today) on April 10, a large community of LEGO® MINDSTORMS® robot enthusiasts from many of Seattle’s most well-known companies will compete to test their robot-building skills for the 2014 LEGO MINDSTORMS “Build for Good” event. And we need YOU to capture it!
Tongalers, you’ve already shown how awesome the LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 set is, but did you know that there are enthusiasts out there who have built LEGO MINDSTORMS robots that can create bones in a science lab, play a supersized game of chess, and solve a Rubik’s cube faster than anything on earth?
Neither did we, which is why LEGO wants you to capture the stories of the builders, the robots, and the inspirational energy at the event. So start pitching and pack a bag because next Thursday will be here before you know it.
The goal of this project is to produce a Video (up to 5 minutes with a 120 second, 60 second, 30 second and two 15 second cuts) that tells the story of the LEGO MINDSTORMS “Build for Good” event in Seattle, Washington. The cuts should be able to stand on their own and inspire kids and adults to take a closer look at LEGO MINDSTORMS and start building and programming robots themselves.
The Videos should show:
--Key Marketing Messages:
--Target Audience: Children 10+ and adults
--Executional Mandatories:
--Tone: The tone should be high energy yet inspirational– if it were a movie it would be one part Rocky and one part car chase from Bourne Identity with a little Pixar humor woven in.
--Exposure: LEGO YouTube channel; internal distribution, potential screening at FIRST LEGO LEAGUE World Festival in late April.
This Project will be worth a total of $30,000 and consists of 2 Phases: a Pitch Phase and a Video Phase. Be sure to read the following information carefully as well as the Official Rules.
PHASE 1: PITCH - Submit your Pitch (What Is a Pitch Phase?) convincing the Sponsor why you should be selected to execute a Video for this event:
The most compelling Pitch will be selected and, upon submitting the Winner’s Affidavit and the IP Assignment, will receive $7,500 to help create the Video. Additionally, upon submitting a Video that satisfies the criteria laid out in your winning Pitch, the Pitch winner will also be GUARANTEED a winning place in the subsequent Video Phase. So, if your Pitch is selected and you execute your Pitch effectively in your Video submission, you will win an additional $22,500. For an example of an effective Pitch, check out Erik Beck’s winning “3 Artists & 5,000 LEGOs” Pitch video. All Pitches will remain private until after the winner of the Video Phase is announced and the Project is complete. The winning filmmaker is responsible for any travel expenses and arrangements.
PHASE 2: VIDEO – The winner from the Pitch Phase will create a Video (up to 5 minutes with a 120 second, 60 second, 30 second and two 15 second cuts) based upon his/her winning Pitch.
--Video Phase Payout: Winner of the Video Phase will earn the following prize: 1st place $22,500.
--Music: Tongal has partnered with three premiere music providers: Audiosocket, Killer Tracks, Epidemic Sound and Music Dealers. Any of which can be used to source music for your Video submission to this Project. You may use up to THREE total tracks per Video submission, and they can come from any of the three providers listed above. Music from these providers is available to registered Tongal members at no charge solely for their incorporation into Submissions to this Project and will not require a separate Music Release Form. To learn more about using each of these music providers, click on any of the provider’s names above.
If you are selected as a winner and choose to use custom/original music, you must fill out and submit our Music Release Form. If you obtain music from other catalog providers, you must purchase the appropriate license at your own expense and submit it with our Music Release Form when you turn in your Video paperwork.
--Referral: Any Tongal member who refers one of the winning Video creators in this Project using the Tongal “Invite Friends” functionality will receive a referral fee equal to 5% of the amount won up to $500. That’s a potential $500 in bonus cash just for telling all of your talented friends about this Project! Check out more about our Referral Program in FAQ.
