LEGO World Builder gives the LEGO fan community and creative talent all over the world direct access to the LEGO creative team to develop stories, shows and more.. It’s just one more way you can pitch directly to The LEGO Group, aside from Tongal. With so many talented writers on the platform, there’s a need for distinctive cover imagery to help them bring their worlds to life and attract visitors and collaborators with visuals.
To see examples of these cover images, head to the Discover page and click on any of the thumbnails to view the full size art (1600x800). As you explore these pages, do you find yourself drawn towards worlds with eye-catching images? So do we! Now, you can see why it’s so important to make a strong visual impression for your world.
For inspiration, follow these tips:
Explore the list of tags on the left-hand side of the Discover page to get a sense of the different genres and potential mashups.
Check to see if there are any new creative prompts from The LEGO Group at the top of the Create page. If there are, we’ll likely be looking for images that help convey the theme of the prompt.
Skim through the image library on the Create page by clicking the refresh button. See what’s already there and what creative gaps you can help fill.
LEGO World Builder is a first-of-its-kind story development platform that gives the LEGO fan community and creative talent all over the world direct access to the LEGO creative team to develop stories, shows and more. The platform, powered by Tongal, lets you explore, create and collaborate on imaginative and original LEGO worlds – like this steampunk time-travel adventure or this zombie rock opera.
Creators on the platform (a.k.a architects) rely on LEGO World Builder’s image library to help bring their worlds to life on the platform’s Discover page. A banner image is the first thing people see when exploring a world, along with its title and genre tags – so it’s important that the image itself makes a strong, visual impression and helps draw people into the world. The banner image should reflect the specific genre of the world. That’s where YOU come in!
The goal of this project is to help expand LEGO World Builder’s image library so architects have a greater variety of fun, genre-inspired banner images to choose from. We’re open to a variety of creative executions here, from hand-drawn illustrations to mixed media to stop-motion stills and photographs of your own LEGO sets or minifigures artfully arranged in front of different backgrounds. If you have a stockpile of original images somewhere on your hard drive, now’s the time to break them out! Don’t be afraid to mix and match genres, either (e.g. space westerns or medieval fantasy). You’ll see a lot of mishmashing already taking place within the storytelling on the platform. To get a sense of the various genres, read through the tags on the right hand side of the Discover page. These include Action, Adventure, Escape, Magic, Science Fiction, and many more!
To be considered, designers should create and submit one banner image per submission (1600x800, JPG or PNG). Should you get the greenlight, you may be asked to make reasonable revisions to your design before it is added to the image library. Submissions in this ‘Always On’ project will be reviewed on a monthly basis, so there will be plenty of opportunities throughout the year to have your work greenlit. We plan to award a MINIMUM of 2 designs each month and may choose to purchase more if submissions are outstanding!
