THE CONCEPT:
We should begin in first-person POV as we board the coaster. Restraints click into place. A nearby control panel flickers to life. In the background, a small LEGOLAND Spaceport insignia flashes briefly as the lights dim. A soft countdown hum builds. Launch. Ahead of us, LEGO bricks lift and float in zero gravity, snapping together in real time to form the coaster track just as we reach it. Pieces lock into place, with curves assembling mid-air before we race onto them.
The ride rockets through glowing tunnels, spirals past alien vehicles, narrowly misses floating debris, and plunges into weightless moments where loose bricks drift around us before magnetically clicking back into the track. Non-IP LEGO characters pop into frame unexpectedly. In a blink-and-you-miss-it moment, an astronaut flashes by wearing a LEGOLAND t-shirt. As the coaster slows, we remain in first-person POV. We turn slightly and catch our reflection in a polished surface nearby, revealing we’re an astronaut. We see a small smirk. A quick wink. A subtle signal we’re not ready for the ride to be over. The launch sequence restarts, seamlessly looping the experience and pulling us right back into the ride for another round.
THE GALICTICOASTER:
The Galicticoaster blends storytelling, interactivity, and cutting-edge ride technology, taking families on a customizable LEGO space adventure! You'll begin your journey in the Briefing Room, where Chief Engineer Biff Dipper welcomes rookie recruits to Galaxy Command. After a few jokes, some motivational pep talks, and a whole lot of personality, recruits are cleared to personalize their own spacecraft on interactive touchscreens. You'll have the option to personalize your craft across four build phases - Nose, Tail, Wings, and Special Features - unlocking more than 625 possible spacecraft combinations. Once complete, you'll spot your digital spacecraft creation displayed during your coaster adventure!
The LEGOLAND amusement parks in both Florida and California are preparing to open their latest thrilling indoor family roller coaster, the Galicticoaster, which will live within their brand new space-themed land, LEGO Galaxy. This is their first new coaster in nearly two decades, and they’re looking for you to produce an adrenaline-packed stop-motion animated video to celebrate!
The ultimate goal is to create one Hero stop-motion video, told through a first-person POV, up to :30 that works in both horizontal and vertical aspect ratios. The video is non-verbal, so action needs to drive the story. Since we’re looking to move fast, The LEGO Group is providing the creative concept (which you'll find in the Background section), so your team can hit the ground running and create an epic, dynamic video featuring an impressive custom LEGO build. The approved creative concept is below, however keep in mind that there is a lot of story covered, so you will likely need to adjust things to fit within a :30 video. You will be reimbursed for reasonable additional brick purchases that may be needed to bring the story to life outside of the production budget.
