Background

LEGO Ideas products are special sets released in limited quantities based on submissions from fans. In order for a submission to even be reviewed for possible production, it must garner 10,000 votes. Out of thousands of submissions, only a few make it to production. In other words, getting a LEGO Idea pushed through to production is harder than getting into Harvard!

So even with all these parameters, it’s probably no surprise that the Beatles Yellow Submarine Idea made it through and will be available this fall.  Featuring exclusive minifigures of John, Paul, George, and Ringo, the LEGO Group is bringing Beatlemania back in a LEGO-sized way.

Working with Tongal, the LEGO Group is looking for your fun and sharable ideas to create a stop-motion video to reveal the actual Beatles Yellow Submarine set and minifigures and to develop a special and entertaining tribute to this epic band and album. Please read below for more information:

Objectives

The goal of this project is to create a fun and sharable 60-second stop-motion video (with a 30-second and 15-second cut-down) to reveal the actual Beatles Yellow Submarine set and minifigures and to develop a special and entertaining tribute to this epic band and album.

PRE-PRODUCTION NOTE: This project includes a pre-production phase (What is a Pre-Production Phase?). This means you will be required to submit certain items for approval before moving onto the video phase. The approval item for this project is:

SCRIPT  – This project requires script approval before filmmakers move onto the video phase. The sponsor may provide feedback on your script and ask you to submit a new version. There may be multiple rounds of feedback until a script is approved by the sponsor.

IMPORTANT: No filmmaker may begin shooting his/her video until all approvals are completed and the video phase has officially begun. If you begin shooting your video during the pre-production phase, there is a chance you will need to reshoot (at your own expense) so please don’t jump the gun.

If you’re selected as a pitch winner, a Tongal producer will email you to help walk you through the pre-production and approvals process.

The 60-second video and 15 and 30-second cut-downs are all due at the close of the video phase. Please upload them as separate videos when uploading your submissions.

--Target Audience: The target audience is adults first and foremost but the video MUST also be family-friendly and appropriate for all ages.

--Executional Mandatories:

--Tone: The tone of the video should be fun, celebratory and high energy.

--Exposure: The video will be posted on the YouTube/LEGO channel and LEGO social platforms.

Details

This project will be worth a total of $24,000 and consists of an idea phase, a pitch phase, a pre-production phase and a video phase. Be sure to read the following information carefully as well as the Official Rules.

PHASE 1: IDEA – Tell us your idea for a LEGO Ideas Yellow Submarine stop-motion video in 140 characters or less. Remember, an idea (What is an Idea Phase?) is not a detailed script; it is a spark of inspiration, or a distillation of what will happen in the video. As always, ideas should be clever and engaging. The winning idea creators will receive $500 each.

PHASE 2: PITCH - Submit your pitch (What is a Pitch Phase?) convincing the sponsor why you should be selected to execute a video based on one of the winning ideas from the previous phase using:

The most compelling pitch will be selected and, upon submitting the Winner’s Affidavit and the IP Assignment, will receive $10,000 to help create the video. Additionally, upon submitting a video that satisfies the criteria laid out in your winning pitch, the pitch winner will also be GUARANTEED a winning place in the subsequent video phase. So, if your pitch is selected and you execute your pitch effectively in your video submission, you will win an additional $12,500. For an example of an effective pitch, check out The Indie Machines winning “3 Artists & 5,000 LEGOs” Pitch video. All pitches will remain private until after the winner of the video phase is announced and the project is complete.

PHASE 3: PRE-PRODUCTION – The pitch winners from the pitch phase will enter the pre-production phase (What is a Pre-Production Phase?). During this phase, filmmakers will need to receive the following approval from the sponsor:

SCRIPT  – This project requires script approval before filmmakers move onto the video phase. The sponsor may provide feedback on your script and ask you to submit a new version. There may be multiple rounds of feedback until a script is approved by the sponsor.

No filmmakers may begin shooting their video until all approvals are completed and the video phase has officially begun. If you begin shooting your video during the pre-production phase, there is a chance you will need to reshoot (at your own expense) so please don’t jump the gun.

PHASE 4: VIDEO – Once the pre-production phase is complete, the pitch winner will create a 60-second stop-motion video based on his/her pitch.

The 60-second video and 15 and 30-second cut-downs are all due at the close of the video phase. Please upload them as separate videos when uploading your submissions.

--Video Phase Payout: Winner of the video phase will earn $12,500.

--Music: Tongal has partnered with three premiere music providers: Audioblocks, Killer Tracks and Epidemic Sound. Any of which can be used to source music for your video submission to this project. Music from these providers is available to registered Tongal members at no charge solely for their incorporation into submissions to this project and will not require a separate Music Release Form.
