Do you love LEGO, anime, and have the artistic ability to bring both of them together in a breathtaking LEGO anime illustration? Then this is the project for you!

Tongal and The LEGO Group are looking for new illustrative ways to depict LEGO stories through animation, and are looking for your help depicting a scene of general life in the streets of Tokyo, in a dynamically unique anime style. The objective of your concept art is to inspire animators on a new art style they can utilize in an upcoming long-form LEGO animated video!

Your inspiration, and the medium for your submitted concept art, are completely up to you! Your work could be inspired by a mainstream Anime or something more niche and artistic. All design mediums are welcome, whether it's traditional drawing or painting, digital 2D or 3D design and rendering, moving imagery, transmedia, or even sculpture. Both color and grayscale are fine, and you may use any aspect ratio. It just needs to be an anime-style illustration showing people, depicted as LEGO minifigures, in the streets of Tokyo, depicted as LEGO brick builds.

Please include your social media or portfolio links as well as there may be more work in the future we would love to see all of your capabilities! Additionally, if the LEGO team responds strongly to your work, they might want to see more concept art, and you may be given the opportunity to create additional scenes at the same budget level.

EXECUTIONAL MANDATORIES:

• Your Artwork must depict LEGO minifigs in Tokyo
• Your Artwork may NOT be a depiction of styles established in LEGO Ninjago or LEGO Monkie Kid
• Your Artwork must be submitted as a PDF, PNG, JPG, or GIFs (if a cinemagraph or moving image). If you are selected, and working in a digital medium, you will also be required to provide a high-resolution 300 DPI layered PSD of your Artwork.
• Your Artwork should be suitable for a general audience.
• Your Artwork must be wholly original and not previously published, licensed, sold, used, released, distributed, or otherwise exploited in any form. Your Artwork must not have previously won an award.
• Your Artwork may NOT include third-party materials (e.g., artwork, logos, photographs, etc.).
• Your Artwork may NOT include the name or likeness of any recognizable individual.
• You may NOT submit any script or treatment with your Artwork. Any notes that you include should be limited to explaining and elaborating upon your Artwork of the character.

In order to be eligible for this contest, you must include the below materials in your Artwork submission. You may submit up to five times.

 

• ARTWORK (REQUIRED): Upload an image of your Artwork in either PDF, PNG, JPG, or GIFs (if a cinemagraph/moving image). Note that if you are selected, and working in a digital medium, you will be required to provide a high-resolution 300 DPI layered PSD of your Artwork.
  
  
• SOCIAL MEDIA HANDLES (REQUIRED): Please provide any relevant social media handles you have for Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, etc.
  
  
• ADDITIONAL CONTEXT (OPTIONAL): If you want, you may also use up to 1000 characters to include a short explanation or additional context for your original Artwork such as your Anime inspirations and why you feel they would fit the LEGO universe.

1. Preferred format for upload to the Tongal website is .pdf, .png, or .jpg. Should your submission be selected, you will also be required to provide a high-resolution final image and layered design files.
   
   
2. Unless provided otherwise, all work must be your own original creation and free of any copyrighted material. You shall provide detailed information of your work regarding the source, the creator and background information as requested by Tongal.
   
   
3. BY SUBMITTING AN ENTRY, YOUR SUBMISSION IMMEDIATELY BECOMES THE SOLE PROPERTY OF TONGAL OR ITS ASSIGNEES – SEE OFFICIAL RULES FOR MORE DETAILS ABOUT OWNERSHIP OF ENTRIES. YOU MAY NOT PUBLICLY SHARE OR PUBLISH YOUR SUBMISSION IN ANY MANNER AND YOU MAY NOT POST OR UPLOAD YOUR SUBMISSION TO ANY WEBSITE OR HOSTING SITE (INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, FACEBOOK, YOUTUBE OR VIMEO), WITHOUT THE PRIOR EXPRESS WRITTEN CONSENT OF TONGAL. FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THIS REQUIREMENT MAY RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION OF YOUR ENTRY IN THE PROJECT.
   
   
4. You may not contact any employees or members of the Sponsor’s organization, their affiliates, or any of their partners. Failure to comply with this requirement may result in disqualification of your entry in the project.
   
   
5. Submissions cannot contain any profanity, offensive language, nudity or otherwise objectionable material, the determination of which is solely at the discretion of Sponsor.
   
   
6. Submissions must not portray Sponsor in a negative way, the determination of which will solely reside with Sponsor.
    
7. By submitting to this project, you acknowledge that your work may become subject to public voting on the Tongal site. Public voting may be used to help the project sponsor determine the final rank order.
    
8. Submissions must be in the English language or subtitled.
    
9. Limit 5 submissions per member, per Phase.
    
10. You must be at least thirteen (13) years or older to enter.
    
    
11. The Sponsor reserves the right to repost the contest.
    
    
12. In addition to the judging criteria stated in the OFFICIAL RULES, Pitches will also be evaluated on that member's ability to execute the final Imagebased on their prior work and experience as a filmmaker.
    
    
13. The Sponsor will be entitled to reasonable revisions on the finished Images without providing additional compensation.
    
    
14. In addition to the standard Tongal W-9, Winner Affidavit, and IP Assignment, greenlit Image creators MUST also provide Talent, Location, Music (or other) Releases for all assets appearing in their Images, as well as a photograph/headshot OR copy of a photo ID for all On-camera Talent releases. You must also provide all project files, editing sequences and a 1080p .mov master file, using a ProRes, Animation, or Uncompressed Codec to claim your earnings.
