Being dutiful fans of the Big Blue Boy Scout, you may have already seen SYFY’s Superman Superfan Project – if not, check it out! In the supersonic wake of that project, SYFY is now looking for a Filmmaker who can collaborate with two Los Angeles-based hosts they've selected to produce an original online aftershow for Krypton. Their passion for all things Superman borders on obsession, so it's no surprise that they have an insane amount of knowledge, and they speak with a great fan voice. As a team, they'll anchor the show and drive a lively debate and discussion for each episode. However, SYFY saw such a phenomenal response from other superfans that they'd actually like to make these videos a platform for more fan voices, with the hosts joined each video by 1 to 2 other guests, who might appear in person, or in prerecorded segments.  

Having the talent and a fans' expertise is only part of this equation though, and SYFY needs you to build out the aftershow platform and format. SYFY wants a video series that’s going to be really imaginative and dynamic in it’s own right, with a snappy pace, rapid-fire discussions, multiple clips from every episode, and some kind of unique structure. The inclusion of additional fans is a mandate, but it's an open question as to how best to do that. It may debate, it may be interview, it may be one fan offering expertise about one thing that they know better than anyone else.

You’ve probably seen aftershows and episodic recaps before, so you know that most of them just plop a fan in front of a flat background and hit record. That's not what SYFY wants. How can you change up the format? How can you get people excited? How can you best enable the hosts and their guests to engage other fans, and explore how Krypton fits into the wider legacy of the Man of Steel? 

Since SYFY will be looking for something that brings in a lot of different visual and format elements - from show clips and title cards to short segments from those other superfan correspondents - a major part of this challenge comes in post-production. It's smart design and editing skills that will really help this succeed in becoming a unique and exciting format. 

Here’s what you need to know: 

• The Superfan Hosts are located in Los Angeles, so it’s helpful if you’re local to Los Angeles, or think you can afford to travel. Please DO NOT reach out to the hosts during the Pitch Phase. Also, note that no additional budget will be provided for travel.
• The Superfan "Guests" are located all over the world, and it's not necessary that they be filmed in Los Angeles. SYFY is open to incorporating segments from other guests in whatever way works best, whether it's cell phone video, a live Skype chat, or a polished pre-recorded clip that the guest puts together. Tongal and SYFY will help determine who the other guests are, and Tongal will help organize logistics. 
• Each video should run 2 to 3 minutes – you’ll need to collaborate with the hosts to ensure that you can efficiently cover each Krypton episode and topic in the allotted time, but note that these are intended for people who've seen the episodes, so your videos shouldn't be "recaps," and that gives you more time to debate and discuss.  
• The series will be comprised of 11 videos; one for each of the 10 episodes of Krypton, and 1 to celebrate the 80^th anniversary of Superman, and the original Superman Films
• SYFY will provide you with each Krypton episode in advance of its airdate, as well video assets that you can include as clips in your videos. It’s important that each video include multiple short clips from the Krypton episode being discussed. Whether these clips include audio, or are incorporated with VO, is up to you. 
• SYFY may provide behind-the-scenes footage and access, if possible, for specific episodes. If there's a particular scene, sequence, stunt, or revelation, and it makes sense to incorporate exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, SYFY will try to accommodate if possible. Behind-the-scenes access should not be a major driver of your videos, however.
• You should plan to collaborate with the Superfan Hosts on format, production design, and especially script. They’re Superman experts, so you should take advantage of that.
• Filming will begin during the end of February and continue into March. A timeline has been included in the Details section for the pilot, but the exact delivery schedule and timeline will be determined in conjunction with the Superfan Hosts and the winning Filmmaker. Remember that you’ll be up against a hard deadline as each episode of Krypton airs. 
• Each video must be accompanied by an 11-second broadcast teaser which will play during the episodes to drive audiences towards your video. Note that you will need to provide a 5.1 audio mix for the broadcast deliverable, and should account for that in your budget.

What is Required to Submit your initial Pitch:

• Text: 500 characters or less synopsizing the format of your show and how you’d like to structure each episode of the series. 
• Treatment: A detailed description of how you plan to format the aftershow videos; how it’s going to look and feel, along with any visual and tonal references, or mood boards; how you’ll utilize clips and on-screen graphics; and how you might incorporate additional talent as on-screen correspondents. • Proposed Budget & Bid: Instead of us dictating your budgets, we’re looking for you to let us know the amount you need in order to execute your Series, though you should try and stay in the range between $3500-$5500 per video per episode. Your budget proposal is subject to approval if your Pitch is selected. Please consider the most economical way to produce your Series. (*See Budget Template in the Assets Tab).

The goal of this project is to find a Filmmaker to team up with two Los Angeles-based Superman Superfans to produce a really imaginative and engaging online aftershow with 11 videos about SYFY’s upcoming new television series KRYPTON. Each video should run 2 to 3 minutes, and be accompanied by an 11-second teaser for broadcast.

With the hosts, SYFY has a team that brings real passion for the Man of Steel, who are familiar with the whole canon of Superman content and it’s history, and who can connect with SYFY audiences and break down each new episode of Krypton. The inclusion of other fans will expand upon that even further – so you don't have to be the expert. It’s your job to amplify the fan voice with a unique format. Remember too that the Superfan Host is not just acting talent, so you can collaborate with them to structure each video, and write a script for each episode. 

--Timeline: Below is the anticipated timeline for the delivery of the Pilot Video. Once a filmmaker has been selected, we will determine a schedule for the entire series of Videos, reflecting this model below. This schedule may include a rolling delivery of episodes, and will allow for production of episodes in several batches, if that’s determined to be more efficient.

--Executional Mandatories:

• Videos must adhere to creative guidelines laid out in the SYFY and Krypton style guides, which will be provided upon your selection as a Pitch Winner. 
• Videos must include footage from the Krypton episode being discussed. SYFY will provide you with video files from each episode for this purpose.
• On-screen and motion graphics should be part of the look and feel of your videos, and must align with existing SYFY and SYFY Wire content. You will be provided with a Brand Styleguide and graphic assets for this.

--Exposure: 

The Krypton after-show video series is intended for distribution on SYFY and SYFY Wire’s owned channels and digital platforms, specifically YouTube and SYFY.com, but potentially also Facebook and Instagram. The short 11-second teaser videos may air on TV to promote the aftershow series.

This Project will consist of 5 Phases: a Pitch Phase, a Pre-Production Phase, a Video Phase, a Revisions Phase, and a Delivery Phase. Be sure to read the following information carefully as well as the Official Rules.

The Sponsor will determine whether it will select a winning submission.

PHASE 1: PITCH - This is an open bid project, so you’ll get to set your overall budget proposal. You can download the Budget template here. The Sponsor would like the filmmaker to create 11 Videos (plus 11-second broadcast teasers) with a budget range of $3500-$5000 per video.

Submit your Pitch (What is a Pitch Phase?) convincing the Sponsor why you should be selected to execute a Video based on one of the winning Ideas from the previous Phase using:

• Text (REQUIRED): 500 characters or less synopsizing how you plan to approach and execute the aftershow format.
• Treatment (REQUIRED): A detailed narrative description of what's going to happen in the aftershow video series. If it's helpful to you, we've provided a Treatment template, which you can find here.
• Links (REQUIRED): To your previous video work. Please specify your role (producer, director, cinematography, etc.) and DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO YOUR SHOWREEL. Please link to individual videos.
• Pitch Video (Optional): This is your opportunity to be face-to-face with the Sponsor and show them what you're capable of. Consider submitting a Pitch video in which you tell the Sponsor what they can expect should they choose your Pitch. Also, test videos, animatic, etc. are welcome.   
• Storyboards (Optional): Additional concept art, storyboards, shot list, anything that helps get your point across. You can download the Tongal storyboard template here.

The most compelling Pitch will be selected and, upon submitting the Winner’s Affidavit and the IP Assignment, will receive a portion of their budget to help create the Videos.  Please note the payment of the Pitch award is subject to a payment schedule determined by Tongal. This payment schedule will include milestones for pre-production, production, and post-production, and payments will be issued based upon reaching these milestones for each Video (or batch of Videos). Final payment will be contingent upon submitting Videos that satisfy the criteria laid out in your winning Pitch, completing Sponsor notes, providing the necessary release forms, and providing all assets required by the sponsor.

PHASE 2: PRE-PRODUCTION – The Pitch Winner from the Pitch Phase will enter the Pre-Production Phase (What is a Pre-Production Phase?). During this phase, filmmakers will need to receive the following Approvals from the brand: 

• TREATMENT– This project requires Treatment Approval before filmmakers can move onto the Video Phase. The treatment should describe how you plan to execute the video and how you plan to bring the storytelling to life visually. The sponsor may provide feedback on your Treatment and ask you to submit a new version. There may be multiple rounds of feedback until a Treatment is approved by the brand.
• SCRIPT – This project requires Script Approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. The brand may provide feedback on your Script and ask you to submit a new version. There may be multiple rounds of feedback until a Script is approved by the brand. 
• LOCATION - This project requires Location Approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. This means you will need to submit multiple images of your primary filming. The brand may provide feedback on your location and ask you to submit additional photos or to find a new location and submit images for that. 

No filmmakers may begin shooting their Video until all Approvals are completed and the Video Phase has officially begun. If you begin shooting your Video during the Pre-Production Phase before you have received final approval, there is a chance you will need to reshoot (at your own expense).

PHASE 3: VIDEO – Once the Pre-Production Phase is complete, the Pitch Winner will create a series of 11 aftershow videos, each approximately 2 minutes in length, and each with an 11-second teaser for broadcast. 

Once a filmmaker has been selected, we will determine a schedule for the entire series of Videos, reflecting the Pilot Timeline included above. This schedule may include a rolling delivery of episodes, and will allow for production of episodes in several batches, if that’s determined to be more efficient.

NOTE: Both the long-form 2 to 3 minute video and the 11-second broadcast teaser are due at the close of the Video Phase for each episode. Please upload them as separate videos when submitting your Videos. 

--Music:  Tongal has partnered with the premiere music provider Jingle Punks, which can be used to source music for your Video submission to this Project. Music from these providers is available to registered Tongal members at no charge solely for their incorporation into Submissions to this Project and will not require a separate Music Release Form. If you are selected as a winner and choose to use custom/original music, you must fill out and submit our Music Release Form. If you obtain music from third-party catalog providers, you must purchase the appropriate license at your own expense and submit it with your license purchase receipt when you turn in your Video paperwork.

PHASE 4: REVISIONS – Once Videos have been delivered, the winning submitters will enter the Revisions Phase (What is a Revisions Phase?) for each Video. During this phase, filmmakers will perform reasonable edits on their Videos according to the Sponsor’s feedback.

PHASE 5: ASSETS DELIVERY - You must also provide all project files, editing sequences and a 1080p .mov master file, using a ProRes, Animation, or Uncompressed Codec in order to submit final payment. You will be responsible for the costs associated the hard drive (if necessary) and shipping.

1. The Video MUST not exceed 3 minutes in length. Preferred format for upload to the Tongal website is HD 720p 16x9. Acceptable file formats are .mov, .avi, .mp4, .wmv. Acceptable codecs are H.264 (MP4), MPEG-4, H.263, MPGV, WMV, DivX. Should you win, you will also be required to provide a 1080p .mov master file, using a ProRes, Animation, or Uncompressed Codec.

2. Unless provided otherwise, all work must be your own original creation and free of any copyrighted material. You shall provide detailed information of your work regarding the source, the creator and background information as requested by Tongal.

3. In the event you utilize any third party materials, such as music provided by a third-party music provider not provided by Tongal, you must obtain full written license and consent from the owner of such third party materials and provide such license and consent forms to Tongal.

YOU MAY NOT PUBLICLY SHARE OR PUBLISH YOUR SUBMISSION IN ANY MANNER AND YOU MAY NOT POST OR UPLOAD YOUR SUBMISSION TO ANY WEBSITE OR VIDEO HOSTING SITE (INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, FACEBOOK, YOUTUBE OR VIMEO), WITHOUT THE PRIOR EXPRESS WRITTEN CONSENT OF TONGAL.  FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THIS REQUIREMENT MAY RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION OF YOUR ENTRY IN THE PROJECT.

5. Submissions cannot contain any profanity, offensive language, nudity or otherwise objectionable material, the determination of which is solely at the discretion of Sponsor.

6. Submissions must not portray Sponsor in a negative way, the determination of which will solely reside with Sponsor.

7. By submitting to this project, you acknowledge that your work may become subject to public voting on the Tongal site. Public voting may be used to help the project sponsor determine the final rank order.

8. Videos must be in the English language or subtitled.

9. Limit 5 submissions per member, per Phase.

10. You must be at least thirteen (13) years or older to enter.

11. The Sponsor reserves the right to repost the contest.

12. In addition to the judging criteria stated in the OFFICIAL RULES, Pitches will also be evaluated on that member's ability to execute the final Video based on their prior work and experience as a filmmaker.

13. The Sponsor will be entitled to reasonable revisions on the finished Videos without providing additional compensation. Remember it's easier to re-edit than re-shoot so try to get as much coverage as possible.

14. In addition to the standard Tongal W-9, Winner Affidavit, and IP Assignment, winning Video creators MUST also provide Talent, Location, Music (or other) Releases for all assets appearing in their winning Videos, as well as a photograph/headshot OR copy of a photo ID for all On-camera Talent releases. You must also provide all project files, editing sequences and a 1080p .mov master file, using a ProRes, Animation, or Uncompressed Codec to claim your prize.
