Background

GoldieBlox is an award-winning media and entertainment company that integrates storytelling with STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) principles and meaningful discovery. Their mission is to educate and empower girls with tools to build their confidence and dreams. GoldieBlox makes STEAM fun; shares it with communities who need it; and celebrates the intersection of art, STEAM, and girl empowerment.

Their unique STEAM + FUN formula shows kids and parents how STEAM can change the world and that girls can be the catalysts of change. Nurturing STEAM skills and interests in girls at a young age gives them better opportunities in life and will help build the next generation of leaders.

GoldieBlox girls are:

Our content and programming should speak to some or all of these girls.  We want to provide girls with ways to identify with our brand and to open the door for them to discover and relate within our GB universe.

Every October 11,International Day of the Girl Child highlights and address the needs and challenges girls face, while promoting girls' empowerment and their fulfillment of human rights. It's a day to celebrate and reinforce girls' achievements, promote equality, and inspire girls all around the world to use their voices and skills to make the world a better place. International Day of the Girl Child is also used to draw a spotlight on challenges facing girls internationally, including access to education and nutrition, legal rights, medical rights, and forced child marriage. As heavy as these issues are, they are important to Gen Z girls, who know they have powerful voices and are passionate about using them.

On November 8, National STE(A)M Day inspires kids to explore and pursue their interests in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. While many girls show interest in these disciplines at a young age, there's a huge gender gap in STEAM-related careers; without encouragement, girls begin to lose interest in STEAM topics by the age of 8, and less than 20% of girls graduate with a degree in Engineering or Computer Science. By encouraging girls to nurture their STEAM interests and skills, GoldieBlox is creating a future that is more inclusive and diverse across those fields of studies and creates a space where girls can be mentored, inspired, and educated in these crucial studies and skills.

Objectives

GoldieBlox is looking for 360 activations to celebrate two upcoming tentpole holidays. GoldieBlox wants to support both International Day of the Girl (October 11) and National STEAM Day (November 8) with strong content activations that support each day's theme and mission. What is STEAM, you may ask? Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math.

The videos and activations that will come from your concepts should provide a fun way for kids and their families to be inspired, have fun, and to learn.

While we are looking for concepts unique to each Day, there is crossover in the themes, audiences, and GoldieBlox's mission, so overarching concepts that apply to both Days are welcome, too. While we've broken out unique themes and thought-starters for each Day in the Background section, in general your concepts should build on what activation can look like in our current world; how relevant influencers, like those listed in the Background section (and beyond) could play a role; ways for families to connect and bond through challenges and gamified content; and how both "live" and packaged content could continue the conversation on various social media platforms. Most of all, in keeping with the themes central to each Day and to GoldieBlox's core mission, your concepts should inspire and empower kids (especially girls).

EXPOSURE: Concepts may be used to create content for YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter and Facebook.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

TONE: Inspiring, celebratory, empowering, inclusive.

Details

Tell us your concept in 250 characters or less. Remember, a concept is not a detailed script — it is a spark of inspiration or a distillation of what will happen in the video, activation, or series. As always, concepts should be clever and engaging.
