Attention Wildcard Submitters: Please see Sponsor's Notes in the Project Forum!

Between your quippy Banana Stand jokes and your extensive knowledge of the Medellin Cartel, you’ve quickly become the coolest guest at the dinner party. You have the power! But with great Netflix power comes great Netflix responsibility… to pass it on.

So, have you done it yet? Have you hooked up your parents with Netflix? Connected your grandparents? Shared the awesomeness with your aunts, uncles and cousins?

It’s true, there’s an undeniable magic that happens when you hook up a loved one to Netflix -- whether it’s finding out that Grandma is obsessed with Breaking Bad, crying with Dad during Beasts of No Nation or getting that NSFW spoiler text from Mom during the Orange Is The New Black finale.

We know this wonder of streaming entertainment has a wonderful way of connecting people. That’s why we want to hear your real #hookupyourparents Stories, and especially what happens after you hook them up and the unexpected consequences.

Feel free to explore a range of topics, like:

...AND don't forget you can upload a PHOTO with your Story submission!!

Objectives

Attention Wildcard Submitters: Please see Sponsor's Notes in the Project Forum!

The goal of this project is to make an authentically funny or emotional Video, up to 60 seconds in length, about the connections that happen when you introduce your loved ones to Netflix, and encourage other Netflix Enthusiasts to #HookUpYourParents.

We want to hear and see your truly real stories of how you Hook Up Your Parents with Netflix. (Or your Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles or any other family members… we don’t discriminate.) We believe everyone deserves to experience the joys of Netflix! During the Story Phase you can even upload a picture of your hooked up family member enjoying Netflix along with your Story submission!

We want to create Videos that celebrate the power of connecting over stories. The purpose of these videos is to celebrate the joys of connecting over Netflix. So, while the how to's of signing up are important, we are more interested in the fun and unexpected things that happen after signing up.

We want to strongly encourage authentic, interview, docustyle videos that bring real stories to life, and show family connections that you can relate to. However, we are also open to exploring other creative ways you can bring this #hookupyourparents concept to life (potentially scripted, starring actors, yet still emotionally resonant). So, don't have a real story to share? Well then, you can riff on the thought-starters in an entertaining way with a relatable human truth at it's core.

Most importantly, we want your Video to resonate in social media – whether that’s because the story is funny and it’s “just like us!” or it’s emotional and inspires you to tag your family. Your Video should generate shares, likes and comments.

Should your true Story be selected as a winner, you may be required to cooperate with the Pitch winner and star in the Video. There's also a Wildcard Pitch in this Project, so if you're a filmmaker and want to Pitch your Family's Story, we encourage you to submit it as a Wildcard Pitch during the Pitch Phase.

WHAT CONTENT CAN I REFERENCE?

We want to hear about your love for Netflix and their shows, which means you can highlight the Netflix brand and their Original Series PLUS you can extend beyond into your favorite movies or TV shows (Licensed Non-Original Content) that you’ve discovered on the streaming service. To get your juices flowing, see below:

--Target Audience:

--Executional Mandatories:

--Tone:

--Exposure:

Intended for use on Netflix digital and social channels.

--Brand Persona:

Netflix loves entertainment as much as our fans do. We want everyone to have a story to love, and that’s why we give our users control over where they watch, what they watch and when they watch. We love the way our fans love entertainment, and we want to celebrate the amazing things that happen when Netflix is on.

--Product:

Netflix Product shots are not necessary, in fact, overuse of the Netflix User Interface, for example, may start to make the product moments feel forced. However, in your Video, you should be clear that we’re talking about Netflix. Any content referred to should be current content in the Netflix catalog.

Details

This Project will be worth a total of $67,500 and consists of THREE Phases: a Story Phase, a Pitch Phase and a Video Phase. Be sure to read the following information carefully as well as the Official Rules.

PHASE 1: STORY  – Submit your #HookUpYourParents Story based on the Project Objective in 500 characters or less.  Story submissions can also include a photo to express your fandom – for example, a pic of you and your loved one that you’ve hooked up to Netflix, or a visual expression of their favorite thing about being hooked up to Netflix.

For this project, Story submissions are encouraged to be real true stories of how you’ve hooked up your family members with Netflix and the funny or heartfelt, unexpected consequences. If you don’t have a true Story, you can also riff off of the thought-starters in the background and submit a Story that you’d think would make a great on-brief Video to support the Netflix  #HookUpYourParents campaign.

Remember, a Story is not a detailed script; it is a spark of inspiration, or a distillation of what will happen in the Video.  As always, Stories should be clever and engaging, authentic and relatable. The winning Story creators will receive $500 each and a 5% one-time residual payment for any winning Videos based on their Story. (That means if your winning Story is the basis for the 1st place Video, you will receive $900, the 2nd place Video $700, the 3rd place Video $500, the 4th place Video $300, and the 5th place Video $275 – see Video Phase Payout details for more information.)

For this project, Story submissions are encouraged to be real true stories of how you’ve hooked up your family members so they can be brought to life by winning filmmakers in the Pitch Phase.

If you are submitting a Real True Story, here’s what you need to know:

NOTE: If you submit on behalf of a Story subject please know the following:

PHASE 2: PITCH –

**There’s a WILDCARD PITCH on this project, which means if you don’t want to Pitch on a winning Story because you’re a filmmaker and have your own great #HookUpYourParents Story to tell, you can submit a Wildcard Pitch based on your own family’s story – but be sure to include photos and visual references as supporting materials**

Submit your Pitch (What is a Pitch Phase?) convincing the Sponsor why you should be selected to execute a Video based on one of the winning Ideas from the previous Phase using:

The FOUR most compelling Pitches will be selected and, upon submitting the Winner’s Affidavit and the IP Assignment, will each receive $3,000 to help create the Video.  Additionally, upon submitting a Video that satisfies the criteria laid out in your winning Pitch, the Pitch winners will also be GUARANTEED a winning place in the subsequent Video Phase.  So, if your Pitch is selected and you execute your Pitch effectively in your Video submission, you will win an additional $5,500, at a minimum, and have a chance to compete for the $18,000 First Place video prize (subject to deduction for one-time 5% residual payment to eligible Idea winners). For an example of an effective Pitch, check out The Indie Machines winning “3 Artists & 5,000 LEGOs” Pitch video. All Pitches will remain private until after the winner of the Video Phase is announced and the Project is complete.

PHASE 3: VIDEO – The FOUR winners from the Pitch Phase will each create a Video, up to 60 seconds in length, based upon their winning Pitch.

All other creators are invited to enter a Wildcard (What Is a Wildcard?) submission that can be a totally original concept that is not based on any winning material from the Story Phase.  The Judges will score all Wildcard submissions and the ONE highest scoring Wildcard Video along with the FOUR winning Videos submitted by Pitch winners will be scored to determine the standings for the Video Phase.  Remember, the FOUR Pitch winners, along with ONE Wildcard creator, will receive prizes.

--Video Phase Payout: Winners of the Video Phase will earn the following prizes: 1st place $18,000, 2nd place $14,000, 3rd Place $10,000, 4th place $6,000 and 5th place $5,500 (less any 5% one-time residual payments paid to the Story winners, as applicable).

--Music:  Tongal has partnered with three premiere music providers: Audioblocks, Killer Tracks and Epidemic Sound. Any of which can be used to source music for your Video submission to this Project. Music from these providers is available to registered Tongal members at no charge solely for their incorporation into Submissions to this Project and will not require a separate Music Release Form. To learn more about using each of these music providers, click on any of the provider’s names above.

Tongal members interested in a custom music solution for your project are invited to connect with SCORE A SCORE.  They specialize in the creation of custom music, on-demand.

Their business model is based on a "name your price" system, so you can tell them what your budget is, and they will work with you to create a deal configuration that will work within the discussed parameters. Check out the FAQ for more information and how to contact SCORE A SCORE.

If you are selected as a winner and choose to use custom/original music, you must fill out and submit our Music Release Form. If you obtain music from other catalog providers, you must purchase the appropriate license at your own expense and submit it with our Music Release Form when you turn in your Video paperwork.
