Ollie's Bargain Outlet is one of America's largest retailers of the closeout merchandise and excess inventory. Their "semi-lovely" stores sell merchandise of all descriptions and some beyond description.
REFERENCE VIDEOS FOR INSPIRATION OR TONE:
Ollie's Bargain Outlet has GOOD. STUFF. CHEAP - and they want everyone to know it! To that end, they're looking for hilarious, cartoony, and maybe even a little self-deprecating concepts for a short animated intro to a :30 broadcast video that promotes Ollie's Bargain Outlet grand openings across the country in a way that drives in-store traffic.
The majority of the messaging will be the same as this grand opening video for Ollie's new Amarillo location. For the new intro, Ollie's is looking for a fun animation of the Ollie character as a creative hook into the video to grab viewers' attention. Is Ollie going on a treasure hunt for great deals? Is he relaxing on a tropical beach thanks to all of the money he's saved by shopping at Ollie's? Let your imagination run wild!
Your concept must incorporate the "Ollie" character - and while you cannot change his physical appearance, you can animate him and have in him different outfits, costumes, and environments. When developing your concept, you should think about Ollie's established animation style (see Assets tab). While you should primarily think about how your concept will translate to a broadcast video, Ollie's will also use the concept to develop print ads. The final video derived from these concepts will be a mix of animation and live-action.
Ollie's does not sell anything online, so it's all about getting people into their stores. Additionally, they only get a fixed quantity of a certain brand-name product, and once it's sold out, it's sold out! This, along with significantly reduced prices, are Ollie's key messaging pillars.

In addition to the 5 concepts that the Sponsor will be selecting, five additional submissions will be selected for Honorable Mention, and each will receive $50 for the great creative work that went into them. Submissions selected for Honorable Mention will not be used by the client, and not all submissions identified as Finalists will receive an Honorable Mention.
