Helping youth understand both what the code of conduct is/what the rules are and why living up to it is important for every youth to be safe, both physically and emotionally, and ensure that they all have a good experience at our FSY Conferences. That's something that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is paying special attention to with its FSY ("For the Strength of Youth") Conferences. They want to ensure that that this content is engaging for young people between the ages of 13 to 18. Now, in a recent focus group out of Brigham Young University, The Church's renowned university, researchers found that younger people enjoy learning rules from their peers, so they don't want those guidelines to feel like they're just coming down from a bunch of adults at the top - and that brings us to our objective here.
The Church wants you to create an engaging suite of three different 16x9 videos that can communicate the guidelines for peer listening in a way that feels authentic and relatable to young people, and that ultimately internalize the reasons for obeying the rules and the benefits to acting with inclusivity, kindness, and respect. The Church will be providing scripts for each video to address all the relevant subject matter, so you won't have to worry about that, but in terms of execution, they're actually open to exploring one of three different creative approaches, and they'd like you to propose what you feel would work best in this context. You'll need to really think about the audience, and how you can set the right tone and capture the right vibes for youth age 13 to 18.
The first option The Church would consider is some form of traditional 2D animation; the second option would be something driven by dynamic motion graphics, text, and illustrations; and the third option would be a live action video, especially if it can show a little behind the scenes. Whether you use dialogue or voiceover within those formats is up to you, and they aren't tied to any particular creative style within those approaches. Importantly, you'll work with the same budget and timing regardless of which approach you propose, but the Deliverables breakdown is slightly different for each option, so you'll want to keep that in mind. You want an engaging video that can communicate a lot of information, while staying relatable, fun, and engaging. Casting will be important, whether its on screen or just voiceover, so think about that up front, and how music, pacing, transitions, and other effects might help to elevate the message.
For your pitch, please indicate which of the three different creative approaches you'd want to move forward with. For any other questions or other project updates, check out the Project Forum.
