Background

For those of you who might be unfamiliar, FINCA International’s mission is to alleviate poverty through lasting solutions that help people build assets, create jobs and raise their standard of living. FINCA’s programs benefit millions of people across five continents by offering responsible financial services, such as small loans or savings accounts, and by enabling access to life-enhancing products, such as solar lanterns and clean cookstoves.

FINCA is primarily known as a microfinance organization, with over 30 years of experience in this field. Since 2014, FINCA has added a number of new programs, including BrightLife. BrightLife provides financing for innovative, life-improving products – like solar lanterns and clean cookstoves – for poor families in Uganda. In 2016, FINCA created a 4+ minute video, to introduce the program to their donors and supporters. However, FINCA has not been able to cut the video to be more digestible for a social media audience.

FINCA is enlisting the Tongal community to re-edit some of their existing assets to create two (2) 4x5 :15-second videos for Facebook News Feed and one (1) 4x5 :15-second video for Instagram Feed.

Please read the remainder of the brief for all the important details.

Objectives

The goal of this project is to utilize the provided assets from FINCA to create two 4x5 15-second videos for Facebook News Feed and one 4x5 15-second video for Instagram Feed. It's important that each video complies with the best practices for each platform (please see the Assets tab for best practices).  The download link to obtain FINCA's assets is at the bottom of this page, however before you jump-in it's important to read the below information.

Creative Direction and Assets

As a non-profit, FINCA has a limited budget to create engaging videos that showcase their impact around the world. As such, FINCA has not been able to convert many of their longer videos into shorter, social media-friendly videos for online and mobile audiences, especially on Facebook and Instagram.  In 2016, FINCA created a 4+ minute video, to introduce the program to their donors and supporters. However, FINCA has not been able to cut the video to be more digestible for a social media audience.

For this project, FINCA would like to edit their "Bright Life" video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqmgpuBOL8A) in two ways:

In addition, FINCA would like to edit the FINCA client success story "A Message of Inclusion" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79f4wOGlL3M) that showcases how access to financial services benefits small entrepreneurs and the community they serve. They would like one video based on this and it needs to be 4:5 for Instagram Feed.

Please note that both video assets have burned-in subtitles. Clean versions of the videos don't exist so editors will have to frame out the subtitles, use them, or camouflage somehow. The sponsor is open to any approach.

In order to be considered for this opportunity, you must first submit ONE sample based either on "Bright Life" (must be 4:5 and for Facebook News Feed) or one sample based on "A Message of Inclusion" (must be 4:5 and for Instagram Feed). From these samples the Sponsor will select the winning editor who will cut all 3 videos.

If you are selected as a winner and choose to use custom/original music, you must fill out and submit our Music Release Form. If you obtain music from third-party catalog providers, you must purchase the appropriate license at your own expense and submit it with your license purchase receipt when you turn in your Video paperwork.

PHASE 3: REVISIONS – Once the Video Phase has closed, the winning submitter will enter the Revisions Phase (What is a Revisions Phase?). During this phase, the selected editor will perform reasonable edits on their Videos according to the Sponsor’s feedback.
