Background

About American Made

Whether you're a maker, an artisan, or a new small business owner, consider this your go-to spot for practical advice and inspiration. From tips on how to find investors to real stories of how artisans turned their favorite hobbies into flourishing businesses, we're here to support all things local and celebrate all things American made. Many previous American Made businesses have gone on to become multimillion dollar businesses through the program's guidance on how best to position their artisan-made, commercially-viable products and stand out in their product categories.

Objectives

American Made was built to celebrate small businesses and support American artisans and makers through mentorship, editorial support, and merchandising opportunities through MarthaStewart.com (that's Martha Stewart's website, if you didn't know). Whether you're a maker, an artisan, or a new small business owner, since 2015, American Made has functioned as a hub where these entrepreneurs can find inspiration, tips on how to find investors, and the know-how to help grow their vision into a flourishing business. While the American Made initiative took a bit of a hiatus in previous years, Martha's bringing it back in 2022, bigger than ever before, to recognize, celebrate, and help guide the next generation of American makers.

That's where you come in: Martha Stewart and the American Made team are looking for concepts that will help support, grow, and share the American Made platform, and its partner makers and small businesses, widely. We're looking for a broad range of concepts that go beyond the standard blog post or the old "meet the maker" video profile, so steer clear of the low-hanging, been-done-a-thousand-times fruit. How can MarthaStewart.com – and other potential program sponsors – uplift American Made makers and engage audiences in 2022 and beyond? What initiatives, videos, materials, or interactive digital features could be created to help these makers reach new consumers, grow their businesses, or collaborate with each other?

We're looking for BIG ideas here, not individual video concepts. We want attention-grabbing, PR-worthy stuff. What's going to get peoples' attention? What's going to make a difference? It's a big, open ask, but the sky's pretty much the limit here; so long as your concept is realistically achievable (i.e., the tech for it exists, and it wouldn't cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to pull of); works for a broad range of makers, DIYers, and small businesses instead of one specific maker or type of business; and would increase awareness around American Made, we want to hear it.
