Safelite wants to create greater relevancy (and recall!) for their auto-glass repair and replacement service through everyday incidents with broken glass. Your ideas, and the videos they inspire, should create positive emotion: delightful surprises, mild-shock, real laughter, etc. -- and establish a clear connection to Safelite.
A key goal is to create videos entertaining and memorable enough to be shared. Broken glass (of any kind), should be at the center of your ideas -- it’s the nugget you should build on to make Safelite’s service relevant and fun.
The goal of this project is for three filmmakers to each create two 15-second Videos and 5 stills that explore the theme of “broken glass” in memorable and shareable ways.
Safelite is looking for you to have some fun with this theme. The key is to find unexpected, shareable, and memorable stories and scenarios around the idea of broken glass, that tie back to Safelite’s service in a fun, unexpected, and relevant way.
Key Brand Associations:
Your ideas and the final videos should deliver or reinforce these key associations that tie back to the Safelite brand:
A Quick Note On Tone
Think of the tone for spots for brands like Southwest Airlines and GEICO insurance. These are brands that know how to have some fun with human nature – but they always reinforce the quality of their service & people, and their focus on customers.

--Safelite exists to make a difference and bring unexpected happiness to people’s everyday lives.
--Target Audience:
--Executional Mandatories:
--Tone: Humorous, unexpectedly charming, bright, genuine, invested, friendly, innovative, original, clever, passionate, and optimistic.
--Exposure: Facebook and Twitter primarily. Please see the ’Assets’ Tab for Facebook Best Practices to help guide your Ideas and Pitches.
--Product: It is not necessary to show product in these Videos but the Sponsor isn’t opposed to it. Safelite’s jingle is yours for the taking – you don’t have to use the famous Safelite jingle, but you’re welcome to remix it, work off of it, or incorporate it into your videos how you see fit. The jingle will be available in the Assets tab.
FILMMAKERS: Your Pitch should include treatments for TWO of the winning Ideas. You will need to specify which Ideas you’re Pitching against. You will be required to turn in TWO 15-second Videos at the end of the Video Phase.
Both 15-second Videos and the 5 stills will be due at the close of the Video Phase.
PRE-PRODUCTION NOTE: This project includes a Pre-Production Phase (What is a Pre-Production Phase?). This means you will be required to submit certain items for Approval before moving onto the Video Phase. The Approval items for this project are:
IMPORTANT: No filmmakers may begin shooting their Videos until all Approvals are completed and the Video Phase has officially begun. If you begin shooting your Videos during the Pre-Production Phase, there is a chance you will need to reshoot (at your own expense) so please don’t jump the gun.
If you’re selected as a Pitch Winner, a Tongal producer will email you to help walk you through the Pre-Production and Approvals process.
This Project will be worth $45,000 and consists of 4 of Phases: an Idea Phase, a Pitch Phase, a Pre-Production Phase and a Video Phase. Be sure to read the following information carefully as well as the Official Rules.
PHASE 1: IDEA – Tell us your Idea in 140 characters or less. Remember, an Idea (What is an Idea Phase?) is not a detailed script; it is a spark of inspiration, or a distillation of what will happen in the Video. As always, Ideas should be clever and engaging. The winning Idea creators will $250 each.
PHASE 2: PITCH - Submit your Pitch (What is a Pitch Phase?) convincing the Sponsor why you should be selected to execute two Videos, each based on one of the winning Ideas from the previous Phase using:
The 3 most compelling Pitches will be selected and, upon submitting the Winner’s Affidavit and the IP Assignment, will each receive $7,500 to help create the Video. Additionally, upon submitting two Videos that satisfy the criteria laid out in your winning Pitch, the Pitch winners will also be GUARANTEED a winning place in the subsequent Video Phase. So, if your Pitch is selected and you execute your Pitch effectively in your Video submission, you will win an additional $5,000 dollar amount, at a minimum, and have a chance to compete for the $9,000 First Place video prize. For an example of an effective Pitch, check out The Indie Machines winning “3 Artists & 5,000 LEGOs” Pitch video. All Pitches will remain private until after the winner of the Video Phase is announced and the Project is complete.
PHASE 3: PRE-PRODUCTION – The 3 Pitch Winners from the Pitch Phase will enter the Pre-Production Phase (What is a Pre-Production Phase?). During this phase, filmmakers will need to receive the following Approvals from the brand:
SCRIPT – This project requires Script Approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. The brand may provide feedback on your Script and ask you to submit a new version. There may be multiple rounds of feedback until a Script is approved by the brand.
HEADSHOT – This project requires Headshot Approval before filmmakers move onto the Video Phase. You must submit at least two actor options per role. If the brand does not approve either of your options for a role, you may be asked to submit two new actor options.
No filmmakers may begin shooting their Videos until all Approvals are completed and the Video Phase has officially begun. If you begin shooting your Videos during the Pre-Production Phase, there is a chance you will need to reshoot (at your own expense) so please don’t jump the gun.
PHASE 4: VIDEO – Once the Pre-Production Phase is complete, the Pitch Winner(s) will each create TWO 15-second Videos based upon their winning Pitch. Both 15-second Videos and the 5 stills are due at the end of the Video Phase.
The Judges will score the 3 winning Videos submitted by Pitch winners to determine the standings for the Video Phase. Remember, the 3 Pitch winners will receive prizes.
--Video Phase Payout: Winners of the Video Phase will earn the following prizes: 1st place $9,000, 2nd place, $7,000, and 3rd place $5,000.
