BetterHelp is an affordable counseling service platform where individuals can get the help they need, the way they need it, from licensed and accredited professionals.
You may have seen their previous project where they asked for broadcast Concepts. From that project BetterHelp has chosen 4 winning Concepts. Filmmakers now have the opportunity to select one of these Concepts and pitch on how they would bring it to life.
Please read the remainder of the brief for all of the important details.
The goal of this project is to create a :60 broadcast spot around New Year’s resolutions using one of the below Concepts. In addition to the :60 cut, the winning filmmaker must also create a :30 cut down also for broadcast, and a :15 version optimized for Facebook feed (see Facebook best practices in the Assets tab.) Finally, each of the above versions will require versions with U.S. accented voiceover and Australian accented voiceover so your approach cannot have onscreen dialogue.
PLEASE NOTE this is a fast moving project with final files being delivered on 12/21. Please see the Assets tab for the full timeline.
Please choose one of the below Concepts to build your Pitch around. Whatever Concept you choose each spot needs to end with the tagline “My New Year's Resolution: Get Happy, Start Therapy” and a call to action to sign-up for BetterHelp.
Vision Board
Woman works on her vision board for 2019. Her goals are written on numbered post-it notes, which she places on the board in reverse numerical order ending with #2. She then sticks the #1 post it on her phone. On it is written,"Call BetterHelp.”
Sponsor Note: Last post it should say “Get Happy."
Ball Drop Litany
The NYE ball is dropping. After each number, an issue is stated that a person who should use BetterHelp might be dealing with. For example: 10. I hate my job. 9. I'm anxious all the time. 8. Minor difficulties make me depressed. Etc. Etc.
Sponsor Note: Please do not use the New Year’s Eve ball dropping. We want to maintain the countdown device but avoid any imagery of the ball.
Sisyphus Break the Cycle
Wake up. Push Rock uphill. Rock falls back down. Scratches head. Goes to bed. Wake up. Looks at rock. Thinks. Repeats. Different approach, same outcome. Repeats NYE Wake up, talks to counselor, hands him hammer, hands him bucket, points to stairs.
Sponsor Note: Please provide some specifics on your visual approach for bringing this to life. We think this has the potential to be really attention grabbing.
Every Year's Resolution
You see a person celebrating New Years and writing a resolution list. Year after year goes by with the same resolutions list. The person gets more depressed. This NYE comes and they log on to your site. Next year their list is all checked off.
Sponsor Note: Add “Get Happy” to the list and check it off.
Your Pitch should lay the groundwork for a spot that accomplishes the following:
--Key Marketing Messages: Affordable. Discrete. Effective.
--Target Audience:
--Frame Rate: Since the Australian versions need to be in PAL (25 FPS), prior to shooting the winning filmmaker and Tongal will discuss the best frame rate to shoot in to ensure U.S. and Australian specs are met.
This Project will be worth a total of $50,000 and consists of 5 Phases: a Pitch Phase, a Pre-Production Phase, a Video Phase, a Revisions Phase, and an Assets Delivery Phase. Be sure to read the following information carefully as well as the Official Rules.
PHASE 1: PITCH: Submit your Pitch (What is a Pitch Phase?) convincing the Sponsor why you should be selected to execute a Video based on one of the winning Ideas from the previous Phase using:
The most compelling Pitch will be selected and, upon submitting the Winner’s Affidavit and the IP Assignment, will receive $25,000 to help create the Video. Please note the payment of the Pitch award is subject to a payment schedule determined by Tongal. Additionally, upon submitting a Video that satisfies the criteria laid out in your winning Pitch, completing Sponsor notes, providing the necessary release forms, and providing all assets required by the sponsor the Pitch winner will receive a final payment of $25,000. For an example of an effective Pitch, check out The Indie Machines winning “3 Artists & 5,000 LEGOs” Pitch video. All Pitches will remain private until after the winner of the Video Phase is announced and the Project is complete.
PHASE 2: PRE-PRODUCTION – The Pitch Winner from the Pitch Phase will enter the Pre-Production Phase (What is a Pre-Production Phase?). During this phase, the selected filmmaker will need to receive the following Approvals from the brand:
You may not begin shooting your Video until all Approvals are completed and the Video Phase has officially begun. If you begin shooting your Video during the Pre-Production Phase before you have received final approval, there is a chance you will need to reshoot (at your own expense).
For your convenience we’ve provided some helpful templates to use at your discretion. They include templates for creating a Treatment, Production Budget, Storyboards, Shot List, Call Sheet, and a Music Cue Sheet. They can all be accessed here.
PHASE 3: VIDEO – Once the Pre-Production Phase is complete, the Pitch Winner(s) will each create the below Videos based upon your winning Pitch.
:60 Broadcast Spot with U.S. and Australian voiceover
:30 Cut down for Broadcast with U.S. and Australian voiceover
:15 Cut optimized for Facebook (4:5) with U.S. and Australian voiceover
Please upload them as separate videos when submitting your Videos.
--Video Phase Payout: Upon submitting a Video that satisfies the criteria laid out in your winning Pitch, completing Sponsor notes, providing the necessary release forms, and providing all assets required by the sponsor the Pitch winner will receive a final payment of $25,000.
--Music: Tongal has partnered with two premiere music providers for this project: Jingle Punks and Epidemic Sound, any of which can be used to source music for your Video submission to this Project. Music from these providers is available to registered Tongal members at no charge solely for their incorporation into Submissions to this Project and will not require a separate Music Release Form. To learn more about using each of these music providers, click on any of the provider’s names above.
Tongal members interested in a more customized music solution for your project are invited to connect with our partner Score A Score. Email a brief description of your project (timing, creative, budget, etc.), along with any specific music direction and/or references to their creative team at music@scoreascore.com and include “Tongal Project - Your Name” in the subject line. Their creative team will be in touch within a few minutes to discuss the simple process and options with you. Please note that you will be responsible for the fees associated with using Score A Score.
If you are selected as a winner and choose to use custom/original music, you must fill out and submit our Music Release Form. If you obtain music from third-party catalog providers, you must purchase the appropriate license at your own expense and submit it with your license purchase receipt when you turn in your Video paperwork.
PHASE 4: REVISIONS – Once the Video Phase has closed, the winning submitters will enter the Revisions Phase (What is a Revisions Phase?). During this phase, filmmakers will perform reasonable edits on their Videos according to the Sponsor’s feedback.
PHASE 5: ASSETS DELIVERY - You must also provide all project files, editing sequences and a 1080p .mov master file, using a ProRes, Animation, or Uncompressed Codecin order to submit final payment.
