REFERENCE VIDEOS FOR INSPIRATION OR TONE: In the past, Advance has had creators produce videos that were specifically about the history and future of Advance Auto Parts. For this project, we would love to see videos similar to these in style and tone, but with a focus on Black History and original stories.
Advance Auto Parts is looking for Black filmmakers, animators, creators, and visionaries to step up and seize the opportunity to share their unique automotive experiences, stories, and characters, in a fun and entertaining video.
This month, we're spotlighting Black voices and Black history, and we're looking for Black filmmakers, animators, and storytellers to help share videos that reflect the positive experiences they've had within the automotive industry. We're open to authentic retellings of real, uplifting stories, but we're also open to original narratives, or something else more interpretive. If you've ever imagined that you're Wendall Scott driving down an empty road, you could show us what it feels like using papercraft stop motion. Or if you know an auto shop owner who's a staple in their community, you could produce a docu-style piece. We’re open to any automotive-related creations like a creation video of a massive automotive mural or a 3D rendering of car parts. Weird works too. Maybe you've experienced some other-worldly or strange phenomenon while on the road, with no other witness but your car. Great! Go get some puppets and show us what happened.
If you're wondering where to start, think about the time you got your first car and what that meant to you, about the first time your check engine light turned on and how you dealt with it, or how despite all the elements against you, you managed to change a tire out in the desert miles from any help. Think about your community, your family, your unique POV, and create something that feels like a reflection of you. Feel free to reference Black history, but know that your video does NOT directly have to tie in to or reference Black History Month.
We are primarily looking for animated executions with a voiceover component, given the time constraints, but we are open to seeing how you could bring this to life in an organic, TikTok style live action video if you feel you could tell a more compelling story that way. You may have a lot of ideas for how you might want to tackle this, so for your pitch, we'd recommend submitting several different ideas for your video. If Advance likes where your head's at and you're greenlit, we'll work with you to develop ONE of your ideas during the pre-production process.
